Google says Windows is torturing users

yeah sure thing Giggle. torture huh, slightly out of touch i'd say. how's that android tablet market doing, it's a bit buggy i hear.

"With Microsoft, and other operating system vendors, I think the complexity of managing your computer is really torturing users," Google co-founder Sergey Brin said, quoted by Network World. "It's torturing everyone in this room. It's a flawed model fundamentally. Chromebooks are a new model that doesn't put the burden of managing the computer on yourself."

Yeah, the burden of maintaining something...gasp. I know, let's all trust Google to maintain our computers for us without knowing what's being done and when. After all, we shouldn't worry our little heads about such trivialities...Google knows what's best for us...

Holy crap, how low can a company like Google fall for the sake of marketing?
Saying that Windows is tortuously complex to use? Just wow...

Why can't people/companies just be honest and not throw BS around in their attempts of selling stuff? And if not honest, at least not talk crap about the competition.

Something like "For those out there that might find Windows' broad availability of options and customization complex or unnecessary, we offer you ChromeOS where you'll only have to deal with the stuff you strictly use or need".

Same message, less hostility, zero BS.

I've always liked Google, but you guys are right! That's pretty low...
Windows has always been a little too confusing, it's almost like the programmers have lost touch with common sense.

That being said, Win7 is definetly a step in the right direction and I'm pretty happy with it.
Computers are complicated things, I doubt you'll ever be able to eliminate the "ID10T" errors...

I for one, wouldn't feel comfortable turning over control of my machine to some corporation!

ChromeOS willbe a torture once you get dependent on internet connection which is quite frankly still not available everywhere. Where with Windows (or any other local OS) i can still use my computer almost without any restrictions (apart from missing internet connection).

Tehc Support: Ford customer support, how may I assist?
Customer: Yes, I bought your @#$%ing car but it doesn't work!
Tehc Support: Well what happens when you try to start the engine?
Customer: Start the engine?!! What the hell does that mean?! I just want the @#$^ing thing to work!!!

Sigh. Nobody buys a car without knowing how to drive (or that they'll have to learn how), neither do they buy a sewing machine, a bicycle... Etc.

I see ChromeOS as the next stage of faith, you have to sacrifice to get closer to the Good.

At least I see no other reason to use it, after all it's just a Linux with artificial and pointless restrictions, just do less with less.

When i was handling it department calls and dispatch in the company people used to call down all the time and say "The computer is not going forward it stuck" when checked it turned out to be a login window.

Not to mention that Windows just does not like Tally 24/7 it crashes all the time and then recovery is a .

If google can give a sort or distributed cloud computing it can work. I have seen how a clod based operator deals with errors very impressive and that drop and change method is very good also.

I don't know about that, the only time any of my Windows machines restarts is after a power failure (I bet you didn't know that if you're careful you can even hotswap a graphics card ) - I've had uptimes of over a year without any ill effect. My cruncher/gamer/general use PC has an uptime of over a month right now

Exactly...people buy computers without one iota of a clue as to how to use it or maintain them. The problem is nowadays people are too lazy to learn how.

It's a good thing we have the modern vehicles we do...most folks today would be completely baffled by things like carburetors, chokes and ignition points if these older technologies were in use in new vehicles today.

I don't understand how it could be considered hard. When I started on a Tandy computer hooked up to the TV it used to be like a 100 character command just to get some programs to run. Some ran fine with one command while other programs needed something absolutely different. I remember at times trying for like an hour to get the correct one. Some of them I just gave up. So now clicking something is considered hard?

    Orly?

Windows is crap, but honestly it's the best crap we got, that supports most of the tools we need and use.

However I do something similar to NKrader, tell those people who have tiny computer needs to get an iPad. Saves me the trouble and them as well.

People nowadays are often too lazy to do anything for themselves or figure out how to do it...it seems they have the attitude from the Simpsons, "Can't someone else do it?" Appliances with a small problem are simply discarded and replaced rather than repaired. Button missing from a shirt? Throw it away and get a new one. I remember my mother's button tin...she'd spend an hour looking for the right button to replace a missing one. People can't even be bothered to find a garbage can for their litter, even though this takes very little effort.

Bottom line is that people can't be bothered to do anything or expend the effort needed to learn how to do it.

Vista sure was a torture... ms tried to force people and companies to suffer from it by any means...
7 is working very well for me though... s3 and s4 arent working 100% of the time but close...

Chrome and Android are way buggier than Windows
What ever happened to Chrome OS anyways huh Google? :P
Cant even get tiny oses to work that leverage thousands of free experts (linux) so stop trashtalking :P

Thinking about it... the quality of YouTube and Google maps continues to deteriorate in my perception... more and more bugs with every update...
I think Google has reached a critical mass where innovation slows down a lot and efficiency drops sharply...

Has anybody seen the special where conan o Brian visits Google?
When I saw that I thought wow, they are so much like Microsoft already...

    I don't need a "Re-Education" from Google.

Windows works fine for me. Heck, if I need a walkthrough for something, I can Google or Youtube it.

Google, stick to searching for what I ask. We don't need you telling us how to be productive.
    You must [not] advance.
