    Samsung 830 256GB Day 213

    (GiB) 5,278,762
    (TiB) 5,155
    (PiB) 5.06

(Avg) 298.27 MB/s over the past 2000+ hours

    (B1) Wear Leveling Count: 22,827

    (B6) Erase Fail Count: 12
(B6) Runtime Bad Block Count: 17
    (05) Reallocated Sectors: 69632

    (POH) 5169

    -------------------

More block failures -- 0 program, 12 erase, so 5 are read failures -- not a good sign. It's been over 138 days and 16 minutes since the last stoppage... I just can't seem to bring myself to stop it now to perform some testing on the 830.

Doesn't the 830 use sub 32nm Toggle flash? Some review sites show 830 use 27nm Toggle-Mode 1.1 MLC. Do the 830 nand vary depending on production date and so some older units have 32nm+?

I believe the 830's flash is on a half node or something between 32nm and 25nm. As far as I know, the 830 uses all the same toggle 1.0 flash. For the 64-256GB models, the flash is 32gbit per die, while the 512GB uses 64gbit dies. That way, the 256 and 512s have the same number of die.

I believe the 430 switched from 32nm to 27nm, but they had different SKUs.

    Another read failure for the 830;

73728 reallocated sectors, 18 reallocation events (12 erase, 6 read, 0 program). And it seems to be getting faster on average after months of steady average performance.

Doing some testing on my Vertex 4 512GB. What units is the RAW host writes value in? Sectors? Bytes? It's written 800~900Gb so far.

If it were in sectors, you'd have 4TB in host writes.

Well, I would test an 840 if I could buy one .... but I can't ... not for love or money at the moment.

I never thought I'd be excited about a TLC drive, but I am genuinely interested in getting my hands on the 840 TLC.

It is in sectors. That's really strange, apparently the WA has been really high because I've really only written about 1-2TB over the few weeks I've had this drive.

Even more read failures.... this number of read failures was the end of the Plextor, 3 OCZs, and probably a few others. The 830 seems perfectly fine though.

The 830 is also twice the size of the Plextor

And the OCZ drives tended to start dieing after a couple of hundred erase block failures, the samsung is only on 40.

Edit: The plextor reached almost 6 million reallocated sectors before failing outright.
