    Rad Modification

So I aquired this XSPC RS240 rad from my Nephew that bought a XSPC Rasa 750 kit, he could not use the rad so I gave him $30 for it, to put towards the BI GT Stealth 280 he needed.

Anyhoo I decided to mod (solder) a fillport on it so I could use it with a H50 I have in one of my systems.

Paint scraped back and fillport soldered on with a propane torch (on low), and silver bearing solder! I made the fill port out of a brass 1/4 threaded pipe cap (homedepot ~$1.50) and drilled a hole through it.

Masked, prepped, and ready for a fresh coat of gloss black enamel. I like shine, guess I'm old school, so hater's don't hate

EDIT: Make sure you wait for the paint to be dry to the touch first(i.e. when you touch it it should not be sticky)
Now lets bake. 175 fahrenheit for 1 hour. Why? Two reasons, 1). It greatly ruduces paint cure time, and 2). The paint will tighten, and smooth out any wrinkles, and melt down any over spray.

And here she is fresh out of the oven! Paint is fully cured, and very smooth.

    More to come soon.
    Thanks

    Thanks Guy's

About the oven Paint curing, I made a typo, the temp should be 175f, not 175c. DONOT use 175c you will ruin your paint.. Thanks

uhh warning.. paint in the oven tends to sink your oven, depending on spray paint.

And if u have a wife or sig other that likes to use the oven, you will get more of a beating from her stinking ur oven, then you cluttering the parts on the floor.

Yes indeed, good warning. You will have a paint oder no doubt, I recommend that you let your part dry for a few hours before going into the oven, and better yet if you have an old extra oven use it insted of the one you cook in, or you can just use your friends oven when they are away...lol(j/k) . Also your wife may take your nice shiny part you just painted and smash it over your head your head will heal, however your part may never be the same. And last but not least do not throw me under the bus by telling her I said it was ok to bake painted parts in her oven

lol... thats typically the start of it.

whatever she can get her hands on to throw at you, is a weapon.

Just hope she doesnt throw the ram sticks like daggers... those would hurt.

Ok, as you know the H50/60/70 series are sealed so if you wan't to mod, it would be nice to have a convenient way to fill, and bleed the loop.

I thought it would be interesting to try the rs240 rad with the h50 pump/block, eliminating the original 120 rad which is aluminum.
However I did not want to hassle with trying to fill the loop without a reservoir, and I did not want to include a reservoir.
So soldering a fillport to the rad seemed like the solution, as the tank on the rad can then serve as a res, much like the swiftech radiator w/integrated res.

Anyhow the 240 rad will mount on top of the PC with the fillport facing up.
I will be posting some more Pics later for you guy's.

Sweet mod. Yeah, my wife would kill me if I did the oven trick. She hates when I paint in the garage due to the smell.

Yeah, the pump probably won't even notice the difference between the stock rad and the RS240 because the microchannel base they use is very restrictive, like MCW80-level restriction.

That said, flow will still be just ~.15GPM, maybe a tad lower.

Also the stock rad seems to be more restrictive than the rs240, so yes I think the pump will handle it just fine.

How do you plan to fill it 100%?

Add a fill-line, bleed it completely, then pull the line and plug? Or do you have an easier way to do it? I have an H50 'block' I'm not doing anything with either

I'll probably fill it to about 3/4, and allow the pump/block to bleed first once thats good i'll work on getting the air out of the rad, and fill it up.

The rad tanks on the RS240 are actually about ~1/8" higher than the rad fins/tubes so the water level will stay above them. It's hard to tell but I attached a pic so you can see. The rad will be mounted flat on the top of the case.

No. Well kind of, I filled it with water an pressurized it with my mouth. I know it's not the same, but thats what I have to work with.

My friend has a vacuume pump with gauges, so I could pull a negitive, and watch the gauge for about 10 mins to see if it moves.

I'm pretty confident that it will not leak, as the fitting has quite a bit of solder beneath it.
