*** Official *** ASUS Rampage III Black Editon Discussion Thread (Finally)

So here's the deal... this board has been out for a few weeks now and it would seem that no one has created a master thread for it on XS. I've seen posts wondering whether one-off questions about this board are the "official thread" and I've seen posts on Overclock.net wondering why their master discussion thread for the Black Edition seems to be the only one of its kind.

Sure, we can't expect this board to be nearly as popular as the other Rampage IIIs or the Classys. They don't cost $600. And sure, most of the enthusiast community has moved on to Sandy Bridge. But, I say to you all, this is XS. There is a market for this board, and I've got to believe it's sitting right here.

X58 is still a great platform. For those hardware and OC enthusiasts who are also encoders, developers, image editors, folders, and virtual machinists with money to spare on six core chips and gobs of RAM, X58 is still the best platform (and will be for some time.) The Black Edition? Take the under-pinnigs of an already rock solid enthusiast board (the R3E,) add a Marvell SATA 6GB chip that works as it should (the 9182,) go beyond fixing the R3E complaint about USB headers by adding both a second USB2 plus a USB3 header, and to top it off, add a daughter board with Xonar sound and a Killer NIC. Surely, this board should be the pinnacle of a generation.

So here it is, the official thread. I'll reserve the first few spaces for spec sheets, BIOS updates, pics, and the like. Forgive me if they're slow to come over the next couple of weeks... I picked up this board yesterday but probably won't be doing a rebuild for a few weeks due to my schedule. Still, let's get the conversation going. Let's get the unboxing pictures all in one place. Let's open the floodgates for OC numbers and screenshots.

I know at least a few of us here have this behemoth. Let's get to talking.

Yes, the Xpander fits. Don't remember where I read that yesterday, but here's another source saying the same thing: http://techinstyle.tv/products/the-r...black-edition/. On the other hand, the OC Station is not compatible.

I'm in love with this board, alas I kind off dislike the idea of thunderbolt card.

My only complaint is the lack of BIOS upgrades.

So what happened to this thread?

A Thunderbolt card complaint and a BIOS complaint and no more discussions?

Did everyone abandon the R3E-BE and go back to the R3E thread?
