    ASUS M5A99X Evo , AMD 990X for AM3+

ASUS M5A99X Evo motherboard with Socket AM3 + slot with the new 900 series, using a 990X and SB950. It brings support both Crossfire and SLI technology - the latter is the first time in history combined with the AMD chipset.

Oh yes they do. The sinks on my M4A89TD look much more efficient than that and in fact get hot...up in 50-60c range. Not only this, but I have HEATSINKS on the back of my board - ASUS left exposed FETs back there.

These fets (whole bottom row) I've measured on the sink (not on the mosfet) at 88c under load.

I like it. Only thing I would change are the memory slot colors but this probably isn't the final version of the board.

I wonder what the ROG board looks like. Does anybody can you do three way SLI on these new 990FX boards or two way only?

@n!Cola: At least some ports will be native. SB850 already has integrated SATA 6 Gbps support, so I'd expect SB950 to as well.

@BeepBeep2: You probably don't need to put heatsinks on those chips on the back. They're positioned under the power MOSFETs on top, right? If so, the temperature you're reading on them is going to be mostly from the top, not the chips on the back themselves. Heatsinks aren't going to hurt anything of course, but they are probably unnecessary since that's not the actual heat source and 88C is certainly survivable.

Particle's First Rule of Online Technical Discussion:
As a thread about any computer related subject has its length approach infinity, the likelihood and inevitability of a poorly constructed AMD vs. Intel fight also exponentially increases.

    Rule 1A:
Likewise, the frequency of a car pseudoanalogy to explain a technical concept increases with thread length. This will make many people chuckle, as computer people are rarely knowledgeable about vehicular mechanics.

    Rule 2:
When confronted with a post that is contrary to what a poster likes, believes, or most often wants to be correct, the poster will pick out only minor details that are largely irrelevant in an attempt to shut out the conflicting idea. The core of the post will be left alone since it isn't easy to contradict what the person is actually saying.

    Rule 2A:
When a poster cannot properly refute a post they do not like (as described above), the poster will most likely invent fictitious counter-points and/or begin to attack the other's credibility in feeble ways that are dramatic but irrelevant. Do not underestimate this tactic, as in the online world this will sway many observers. Do not forget: Correctness is decided only by what is said last, the most loudly, or with greatest repetition.

    Rule 3:
When it comes to computer news, 70% of Internet rumors are outright fabricated, 20% are inaccurate enough to simply be discarded, and about 10% are based in reality. Grains of salt--become familiar with them.

Remember: When debating online, everyone else is ALWAYS wrong if they do not agree with you!

    Random Tip o' the Whatever
You just can't win. If your product offers feature A instead of B, people will moan how A is stupid and it didn't offer B. If your product offers B instead of A, they'll likewise complain and rant about how anyone's retarded cousin could figure out A is what the market wants.

Im not quite shure how i should respond to this...

Pretty in my eyes are well design properly functional stuff. Not stupid looking lumps of alu like this. No where did i hinted that i would jump ship just because of this heatsink, i just stated that i thought it looks very inefficient...

I also watercool, so i have no fan blowing in this area, so what if that stupid heatsink design forces med to place a fan blowing at them or change them out to proper heatsinks...?

Why does the TUF support native 1866 mhz DDR3 but ROG only supports native DDR3 1600?

It's only me or companies are starting to see bulldozer as a "equal" in terms of solutions? Apart from asus Rog, i don't remember Asus having such a good lineup of motherboards ... even the Sabertooth is there!

Msi has the Conqueror ... we'll see something from Gigabyte too ...

I think it's the first time i see really good motherboard lineups for AMD that's on par with Intel's offer...
I don't know about you, but this must mean something

Won't say the cpu will be better than X ... but my guess is that Asus, MSI and Gigabyte ( among others ) know that they can increase the offer of products for AMD and go with more "ballistic" products ...
If they knew that the CPU wouldn't be anything special, they would not invest time & money delivering special versions like Sabertooth ... they would keep the ROG's... period. Even ROG will be supplied with Thunderbolt!

    Just my 2 cents ...
