    Data Recovery NEED HELP

I have a 2tb hard drive that just went bad. The partition basically disappeared. It is still running, but I can't get to the data on the drive. I have tried running a couple different diagnostic tools such as DiskGenius, DiskDigger, and RAW Copy from Hirens BootCD, but I haven't had any success getting at the files on the drive. Also, chkdsk doesn't seem to work because it can't detect the partition. I just want to recover the raw files on the drive. Is there a software program you would recommend for recovering data files from a drive?

Also, is there a program I can use to make an exact copy of the drive onto another drive so I can work on that one in case my original drive goes bad? I tried using RAW Copy but Im not sure if that worked.

    Thank you very much.

EDIT: I just remember that before the drive got corrupted, I was getting a "Cyclic Redundancy Check" error message. Could this be a clue to what happened?

    a few good apps here:
    www.runtime.org

    Does the drive spin?
If the drive doesnt show up for getdataback ntfs then you most likely have electronic failure, would be worth trying to find another pcb to swap out with.

Use HD Clone to do a 1:1 copy of the drive - it will take a while but it WORKS. I saved my failing RAID0 array by cloning the failing drive. After that, try GetDataBack for NTFS to restore your data. Do so on the clone Sure, neither of these programs are free (I don't know if the free version of HDClone allows for 1:1 copying but even if it does you're limited to 5MB/s so you'd be looking at a five day clone - remember that a 1:1 copy copies every sector whether it is blank or not.

    Fugger beat me to it

Thanks for the help. I will try these programs.

What is the difference between the free and paid version of GetDataBack?

The free version will show you what can be recovered, the paid version will actually recover the data.

i tried using HDClone, but it was going really really slow and it gave a ton of read errors. I was able to use a different program called RAWCopy, but im not sure if it actually copied the data. Has anyone used RAW Copy before?
