    GIGABYTE X58A-OC & i7-990X Retail

X58A-OC motherboard arrived a week ago, and i have time to testing it with retail i7-990X FPO/Batch # 3045A714

I think no need more introduction about X58A-OC motherboard since we can find many thread about this new flagship motherboard from GIGABYTE.

    Specification

    • Processor Intel Core i7-990X Retail
    • Motherboard GIGABYTE X58A-OC 0014 BIOS & F4C BIOS
    • Memory Kingston KHX2000C8D3T1K3/6GX
    • Galaxy GeForce GTX580 Accelero Xtreme
    • Hardisk WD Velociraptor WD1500HLFS (WinXP) & SSD Kingston SNV125-S2-30GB (Win7)
    • PSU Antec TPQ 1200OC

The best result i can reach with CBB -120C and CB -130C

    WPrime Benchmark

    PiFast Benchmark

    3DMark 2006 Benchmark

    Cinebench 11 Benchmark

    3DMark Vantage CPU Test

    Video 6.5 GHz Max Clock

I know my cpu sucks compare to i7-990X i've seen in XS, but WTH.. i just showing what X58A-OC capable of. Overall X58A-OC is the best motherboard i've using in OC, layout, components, and OC features makes doing extreme overclocking more easy than before. Combining ET6 to set voltage and OC Button to raise both CPU Ratio and BCLK makes easy to find max speed for benching or just to find max cpu clock. I think GIGABYTE and especially Hicookie really done a great job in X58A-OC. X58 chipset is quite late...YES i agree but GIGABYTE shown different taste of X58 platform with X58A-OC. Hoping will see another OC board from GIGABYTE in the future.

Thanks GIGABYTE for providing the board

Great results man. What were the GPU clocks for the 3dm6 run?

All these results are really tempting me to get this board!

well done man, nice retail chip

what vPLL and VTT are you running and have you tried single channel in the second ram slot from the CPU?

    Thanks mate !....

vPLL i tried AUTO, 1.86, lowering down 1.7 something no big change. VTT this is a little high .. i set 1.445v from BIOS to run 5 GHz ++ uncore. Below that no go.

with your CB you could probably push it by another 20C in most cases by playing with VPLL and VTT

you may need to back off on nb clocks a little while you're testing and then try to max it out

VPLL gives me 10-15C better temps, some chips it likes very low (1.3) and others like 1.8 so test the full range

VTT try benching lower vtt like 1.3 and them slightly increase it and see how it goes. Also dropping to single or dual channel will help with temps most likely and won't impact 3D results. Lower temps = slightly higher CPU clocks = more comfortable benching at same clocks which ever works out best

Single channel and dual channel mode i did tried but not helping with CB, gonna test again with more range option over VTT and PLL after refilled LN2. I was limited by not too many LN2 left.

    Thanks for suggestion mate

You should run LinX and submit it to Zalbard to start the XS 6Ghz+ club

    What batch is that 990x?

2.00v - now that is what I call Xtreme - I am sure that my MB VRM's would expolde!

I did tried 2.1v honestly but it's not scale with CPU anymore...and the MB VRM still fine... i admire X58A-OC a lot !

Great board , got one from Gigabyte few days ago and will test it soon. Too bad you didn't get any scaling with removing memory....

Solid results. X58-OC is late, but Ive got to hand it to GB, they actually delivered what they set out to do, with a whole new board from the ground up. Asus on the other hand with the R3E BE released recently, is just a couple of minor tweaks and package a sound/NIC card with an existing mobo......just seems like a last minute grab for the last X58 $.

2.00v into a 990X too, damn that takes some testicular fortitude

That would bring to many jealous and moaning people blowing up their CPUs using 2V vCore...

I said it long time ago and saing again. Cinebench R11.5 to HWBOT. 64-bit scales more, but here is not reason using 32-bit with lower scores for better ranking .
