Phew, thought PCI would be left out completely *waiting on the hating comments to be flooded*

Sorry but can't bothered to pay some silly $50 (these adapters should only cost 10~$20 ffs) or whatever for a PCI-E->PCI adapter which is like twice the cost of the card itself, had rather concidered AMD before that.

Intel integrated nic as a standard would be a huuuge plus, currently only a few mobos use it.

almost every motherboard has PCI slots. the adapter chip is on the board.

it will not be standard. intel charges a fee to use it. that is why budget players like asrock use a separate chip -- buying the whole chip is cheaper than licensing from intel what is already there. it is not a problem finding a board with the Intel NIC, you just have to be willing to pay for it. top of the line asus has it.

Intel does not charge fee for use integrated MAC (in fact Gigabit MAC was already integrated in all latest Intel chipsets). But it can not be used without additional intel's PHY chip (which is physical layer - line driver). Many mb manufacturers prefers complete one chip solution (MAC + PHY) instead of using additional PHY chip.

I'm a bit underwhelmed. I had hoped to see more from the Q/B series myself. Mainly I was hoping to see full 16-lane PCI-E 2.0 availability, with the goal that at least one of those chipsets would be 8+8 and 8+4+2+1+1 capable. Instead you have to go all the way up to the Z77.

I understand product line differentiation and manufacturing costs and such, but I can dream. We have all these new next-gen interfaces coming out right now (USB3, SATA3, Thunderbolt, and an ever-increasing uptick in GPGPU usage), and I had been hoping to see a change in the anticipated specs that would allow us to see motherboards coming out with 2 PCI-E 2.0 x8 slots, or x8/x4/x4 etc. for the various adapters that people could need in addition to an upgraded GPU.
Dual CCIE (Route\Switch and Security) at your disposal. Have a Cisco-related or other network question? My PM box is always open.

from that layout i dont see why u would have a z78 on that socket, it looks like they will have it go z->p->x for the high pin socket the n b->q/h->z for the low pin.

I note that the slide shows that the Z77/Z75/H77 boards will run SB CPUs as well as IB.

Will there be compatibility in the opposite direction, ie will IB CPUs run in the existing Z68/P6x/H6x 1155 boards, as we have been assuming?

AFAIK, if there will be a BIOS update, yes, we can enjoy IB on our x6x boards.

Personally I don't think (4) 3.0 ports is allot, seems by the time this chipset launches things should be flipped with 10 3.0 ports and 4 2.0 ports.

We can safely assume that x7x, Hudson-D3 (A75) and NEC, etc., to have 1 USB 3.0 controller.

You're quick to praise it... sounds good but I'm sceptical if it really is...
Could be a very basic cut down design...

Is anybody else confused why we have 14 USB ports on a mainboards?
    I've never used more than 4 ^^
And there are USB hubs in almost any keyboard these days... but oh well

Because a PHY is a few times more expensive than a Realtek solution.

Rumour: an Intel LAN is more than expensive than 4 Realtek LAN chip.

    These chipsets are all fail.

Still no more SATA6 than just 2 ports? And still no more than 16x PCI-E lanes? And only 4 DIMM slots?

They could save enough money for the difference by removing PCI
