What HDD 2TB should I chose?

    Hi guys how are you?

Well the cuestion is simple. I want to buy a new HDD for storage. For games, HD Movies, series, etc.
The thing is i know that all HDD 2TB from today have problems.

Samsung (eco series) have a problem with the fireware.
WD (Green) have problem with bad sectors and more thing.
Seagate (barracuda LP) have problem with bad sectors to.

So far I donīt know what HDD can I buy, they all have problems and like every else I donīt want to lost all my data for a DOA HDD.

What I want, is you guys tell me your experience with 2TB HDD, and if you had problem with it.

    Thanks.

    here is my experience
WD ecogreen.........been running it as a backup drive for six months....no issues with bad sectors as of yet.
Samsung F4 (NCQ firmware issue).......just got it for my nas and the nas told me about the bug and turned of cache mgmt......i turned it back on and i will run some tests to see if the issue is there ( keep in mind that the patch samsung released fixes the issue but does not increment the firmware number, so you might buy a drive that is already patched)

My .02, I use a WD 2TB every day, and have for a little over 6months or so. I've had no issues with performance or reliability. I also have a Seagate, and have RMA'd it and now it needs it again due to connectivity and noise. and I mean extreme noise! I use WD exclusively in my main rig and have never had an issue, so WD is clearly my choice, lol! Good luck with whatever you buy.

    Thanks for your answer erikmorgan!!!
Well a few month ago I was sure about to buy that HDD. But then I saw many persons talking about HDD problems, bad sectors and I star to think, maybe this HDD is not good to use it for storage all my data!!!! Thatīs why I star to find out what people spoke about Samsungīs HDD.

This are some screenshot from a WD 2TB Green with the problem of bad sectors, etc:

As you can see here, thereīs many bad sector... TO many bad sector for a 2 month HDD use.

Hmm interesting on the bad sectors.

I have 2x of those drives in my main rig and no issues for a long time. Plus I have built a good 12+ machines with those drives and none have had problems so far <crosses fingers>

My be that one you showed was just a bad drive is all.

Maybe your right. But I donīt like the idea to lose all my HD Movies, all my games...
Maybe I can buy 2 WD Green 2TB and use one if the other fail...

Has any one try the WD Black 2TB 7200rpm HDD?

Did you consider maybe a Hitachi deskstar 7K3000 2TB? I'm in a hunt for a 2TB drive as well, and I haven't seen any major complaints about the Hitachi.

If you want to buy 2 x 2TB drives just to be sure you don't loose your data, I would buy a Samsung 2 TB and a WD 2TB. If you buy only from one brand at the same time, chances are you are buying two HD's from the same production batch. If there was something wrong with the batch, two drives could fail in about the same time.

Any hard drive of any company can fail, you have 1 exemple of a WD green with bad sectors, I have 14 of them on my WHS and they work great, I also have few on other servers; but I use widdle3 for change the 5 seconds delay for park the head to 5 minutes.

you need to duplicate your data on 2 different drives, and not on the same location. As exemple I have 2 servers, one in my house and one in my garage 60 feets from the house, so if the house burn, I retrieve my stuf

I've had a samsung f3 2tb for a year, 0 issues. Also it stacked up quite well against many other drives, especially for being a 'green' drive.

I don't like the green series of WD drives, the reviews on newegg seem lower than other compareable drives. I don't hate WD, I like there black series drives, I have 4 of them. But I would suggest the F3EG or the F4EG, I have two of each and none have failed me in the year or so I've owned them

+1 Very cool and silent. At the egg for $80. No firmware issues here on Win7x64, purchased 3 months ago.

The wd green drives are garbage. WD broke then in such a way that they are incompatible with any sort of raid array. I've had 3 all got returned.

Thank you for all the answer guys!!!! And is like you say: any HDD can fail, maybe is just luck jejeje.
But I think im going to buy the Samsung F4 2TB for now.
Here in Argentina the HDD cost u$s140 aprox... Is a nice price for a HDD that big!

In my experience with WD I donīt have complaints. My 500GB Blue works great and my Raptor X got more than 5 years and works like the first day!!!!

I've had 4 Samsung F4s for about 8 months now with 0 issues, and another 4 for about 4 months with no issues.

I keep all my important stuff on raid1 arrays just in case though.

I have an hitachi and samsung 2TB. Both are solid drives. For me, out of the two, I'd buy the cheapest. They both seem fairly quiet.
    You must [not] advance.

I don't buy magnetic hard disks on price, I buy on guaranteed reliability. Yes, all disks can fail, but some are built better than others and are an order of magnitude better in terms of bit error rate. I want to sleep without worrying about my data.

Meaning, I don't buy anything that isn't WD RE.
