The price is kinda high, hopefully it's worth the tag. Right now I'm using SE-200 and by my personal experience its the best card for music (esp Jazz).

    ¥ 34 800 = 411.0576 U.S. dollars

    1. The US Dollar is too weak these days. Quantitative Easing is a horrible idea ain't it?
    2. This card would have to make my ears have multiple orgasms each at a price like that. I'd just buy a home theater receiver and run HDMI audio.
    3. ....It probably does sound really F'ing good though.

Onkyo is not well known for customer support so hopefully it will not have any gltches when released. I love my 3007 Receiver ($2500.clams) but their support is not the greatest.

My Auzentech X-Fi Forte worked just fine as far as drivers are concerned.

    Better than X-Fi HD?

I dont need a better card though, and the creative is fine, though I think I should have gotten an Asus STX instead, but I like having all the X Fi features and settings, and my headphones sound phenomenal.

I'll be curious to see what Xonar ST owners have to say about it.
Particle's First Rule of Online Technical Discussion:
As a thread about any computer related subject has its length approach infinity, the likelihood and inevitability of a poorly constructed AMD vs. Intel fight also exponentially increases.

    Rule 1A:
Likewise, the frequency of a car pseudoanalogy to explain a technical concept increases with thread length. This will make many people chuckle, as computer people are rarely knowledgeable about vehicular mechanics.

    Rule 2:
When confronted with a post that is contrary to what a poster likes, believes, or most often wants to be correct, the poster will pick out only minor details that are largely irrelevant in an attempt to shut out the conflicting idea. The core of the post will be left alone since it isn't easy to contradict what the person is actually saying.

    Rule 2A:
When a poster cannot properly refute a post they do not like (as described above), the poster will most likely invent fictitious counter-points and/or begin to attack the other's credibility in feeble ways that are dramatic but irrelevant. Do not underestimate this tactic, as in the online world this will sway many observers. Do not forget: Correctness is decided only by what is said last, the most loudly, or with greatest repetition.

    Rule 3:
When it comes to computer news, 70% of Internet rumors are outright fabricated, 20% are inaccurate enough to simply be discarded, and about 10% are based in reality. Grains of salt--become familiar with them.

Remember: When debating online, everyone else is ALWAYS wrong if they do not agree with you!

    Random Tip o' the Whatever
You just can't win. If your product offers feature A instead of B, people will moan how A is stupid and it didn't offer B. If your product offers B instead of A, they'll likewise complain and rant about how anyone's retarded cousin could figure out A is what the market wants.

Ahh unlike the SE-200, this one seems to have all soldered on OPAMPS.

But for that price you would think that they didn't use cheep ones, then again you never know. I just hope you can use a Balanced microphone with it like you can with the Forte, was pretty cool being able to change a jumper and use an actual Professional XLR mic (with a 1/8" converter plug) with the card instead of the normal garbage computer mics.

I thought I hated the drivers on mine too (because of the frequent buzzing problems), but apparently it's been caused by a memory leak in ATi drivers all along. Past cats 10.6 or something it doesn't happen any more....

The most annoying thing now is that it [x-fi forte] doesn't automatically turn off rear speakers when front panel headphones are present. I have to manually dial down the volume on them if I want to use cans. Bleh!

I was looking at X-Fi HD but they cost like 270 EUR. I paid around 150 EUR for X-Fi Forte. I doubt there is so big difference that it justifies almost twice as high price...

    Ahh man.

    "Only 2ch D / A converter section is made of Burr-Brown DAC "PCM1798" respectively"

For a card that expensive I was really hoping they wouldn't only use good DAC's/OPAMPS on the front channels like most the other "High End" sound card makers do.

Yeah, no. Hell no, for $411 you can get a pretty damn good external DAC/amp.
