    H50 with 2600K seems way too hot

    Running LinX (~110 GFlops) I get ~80C doing 4400 Mhz, 1.2v (in bios). I've tried reseating the cooler and put another Noctua fan on the radiator (blowing in), but ended up with the same result. When I took the pump off, the thermal paste was spread evenly across the heatspreader - so it seems the H50 is making decent contact.

    Are these results acceptable? I didn't really expect to get limited by cooling at 1.2v I know the H50 isn't the best cooler, but I'm guessing the same OC can be achieved using the Intel HSF.

    Is the H50 new?
    What are you using to read the temps?
    Is the rad or pump hot to the touch?

    • The H50 is about a year old.
    • Coretemp and Realtemp (both show the same temps)
    • Both are hot

    I have the exact same thing with a 2500k and CoolIT ECO (running IBT with AVX enabled). The thing to remember with these coolers is that they are not true water cooling and their purpose is primarily to offer very close cooling performance to the very best air coolers at much lower noise levels. Under real world heavy load conditions I doubt the CPU would see temps higher than 65c or so, LinX and IBT stress a CPU far beyond what any real world 100% load would ever be.

    That does seem a bit high, but not outrageously high.

    I've got a 2600K @ 4.6 GHz with the H50.

    But I replaced the fan with:

    And mounted the radiator on the side panel intake. So it gets fresh air from outside.

    WCG load temps peak at 70C with 80F ambient.
    prime95 and LinX/IBT get higher - up to 75C.

    Try running the stock cooler if it not a PITA to change with your case. My brother's H50's pump started to dump a lot heat before it went out.

    It is very much a PITA to change, but I'll dig out my old cooler and see if it improves. Thanks for all the help

    I have seen discussion's on this, as it appears a lot of the first gen H50's are starting to heat up. I would watch, just to make sure it does not fail.

    H50 is a weak cooler,get noctua or megahalems with a decent fan and it should do the job.

    H50 is a noisy piece of crap.

    Box cooler can stand only 3.9 GHz, anything above that + LinX(AVX) => Tjmax => multiplier throttling.

    Noctua NH-D14 is not only better performing than H50 but also much more quiet. I really do not understand why people are getting liquid cooling and then hope that the pump + fan will make less noise than just the fan.

    1). Did you replace the crappy TIM that the h50 comes with?
    2). Make sure the pump/block is getting a full 12v, some mobo headers supply lower voltage to slow fans down.
    3). It's a year old, have you cleared rad fins from dust? The rad has very dense fins, and they can get clogged very quick

    Temps seem normal, one of the reasons I stated before : you need a good CPU to run daily at them speeds with a low end cooler. H50 is comparable with the Old thermalright TRUE. Still a decent air cooler, but newer coolers are far more performant. Similar with the newer H80 and H100, they blow the H50 away...

    Plus you can never compare CPUs, some need low voltage, others high. Same for temp output some can run 5.6Ghz for benching on air, other can't even boot decently at 5.4 and need more cold to get higher...

    Only thing you can without modding the unit, is to do add is a 2nd fan for a push and pull configuration...
