Question How to automate HDD stress testing?

I read a post many moons ago about stress testing a new HDD.. the idea is that if the new HDD is a lemon, it'll probably/hopefully die within the stress test & thus save headache(s) down the track.

I was given a Samsung F4 2TB the other day. I've been 'stress testing' it since; I fill it with data from other HDDs then format - 'rinse & repeat'.

I'm wondering if there is a way to automate this process? Maybe a program out there? It would be good just to fire up an app, click 'go' then let it loop for a week..

    any such program out there?

i think u can do that with ATTO, but why do u need to do that for a week the smart info and a day or 2 at most should be enough. the chances of it dieing if it has more than a few weeks of up time is almsot nothing until they get to about 3 years old.

preparing drives means it is currently generating a test file to do its workload on. You probably left that field as blank, so it is covering your entire drive, which is not a bad thing for stress testing. It will take some hours...
