    Quick Question for 6950 unlocked shaders only

    Hey guys i have a Sapphire 6950 with unlocked shaders only using one of the saphhire bios that was posted in the thread by wizzard.... When I use MSI afterburner or CCC, i can only overclocking my core to 840Mhz. Is there another program that I can use for higher overclocking? Thanks

    Where you have installed msi afterburner, open afterburner.cfg and change:
    EnableUnofficialOverclocking = 1

    Should hopefully do the trick

    So my 6950/6970 is still running a bit hot. With Crysis 2, Im getting around 90-92C (fan set to 65-70%) when the GPU is full load. I already changed the thermal paste to AS 5 and reheated the heatsink. Currently, my clock speeds are set to 855/1300 using 1.1mV for the gpu core. I want to further overclock my card but im worried about the temperatures. Any suggestions?

    In CCC, I have my 2x unlocked 6950 at 930/1450 with +20% power using the 6970 bios which has slightly higher default voltages.

    Try that and see if you can OC higher. If you ONLY unlocked the shaders, the max voltages remains the same so may be holding you back.

    You need to upgrade cooling if its getting that hot,i could run 950 on stock 6970 voltages and wouldn't see those temps...but u went to a thermal right shaman..i get about 72 max on crysis2 at 1000mhz 1.3v

    Temps seem high indeed. My two unlocked 6950's tops out at ~80C, ref cooler with fans running at 42 and 44%

    For my 6950 unlocked shaders only to 6970, I realized that for Crysis 2 I see some flickering and flashing if I set my clock speeds to 880/1300 on 1.1-1.17mV. However, if I set the voltage to 1.185-1.19mV, its more stable and the flickering is gone.

    Now when I was playing DiRT 2, I can set 880/1300 at 1.1mV, and it is completely stable, with no flickering of artifacts!

    So my question is, how come Crysis 2 requires more Vcore than other games? Is it that graphically intense, or need more juice in order for the game to be stable?

    With your high temps pumping more volts through the card is just about the single dumbest thing you can do. Back the clocks off slightly to 855/1250 and se if you are stable in Crysis 2. Dunno why you would want to play that game though its horrible. Truely unworthy successor to Crysis.

    Please read my post before replying carefully, and please keep your personal opinions about Crysis 2 or any other game out of this discussion. If you do not like the game, dont play it.

    I fixed the temperature issue today! I purchased an Accelero Xtreme Plus with some heatsinks and my temps dropped DRAMATICALLY. Idle temperatures are now 35C, compared to 62C to 67C before. Load temperatures are now between 45C to 49C compared to 90C to 93C in Crysis 2. Thats a 45C drop for me! Im sure my load temperatures would also be lower in other games that arent as intense. My fans (three 92mm fans) is dead quiet too, I cant even hear the difference between 25% and 75%.

    There is no more flickering, and I can now overclock with a much lower voltage. Here is a pic:

    I mean, my 6950 doesnt go higher than 68 degrees in crysis 2 with 1.175 960/1470 with fan at 45 percent.

    but its good to know that you purchased a new cooler.
