    3,3v rail mod question

I have a TTGI 550w PSU (named Super Flower in europe), and i´m going to do the 3,3v rail mod on it. But I only have this thinner orange wire on the big ATX connector( i think it´s for server boards ) . So i have to use an adapter, but there is no thinner wire. Is this a problem?
thin wire at the big atx connector:

no thin wire at the adapter

And is this the right method for the mod? Where i have to solder that in, inside the psu or outside?

    thx for help

It should still work in the same manner, just by taking it from the big connector..

I have that psu, cut the thin orange wire. Use a 1k pot to ground make sure you use the end of the wire from the psu. I get 3.6 ~130 ohms.

Only a pot, no 10 Ohm resistor?

    put a 10 ohm resistor

that's how the 430w antec truepower is done as well.

I want to do the mod today, but only one question: What´s a save voltage to start out with? And how many ohms i need for 3,5v?
And which pin from the pot i have to solder on the psu/atx wire?

    thx

i think u have to measur it by urself. its pretty unpredictable, because some boards got more voltage fluctuations then other boards. btw coole seite, schick mir ne pm was aus deinem 3,3v mod geworden ist, will den nämlich auch machen

I made the mod, but i´m not able to give more than 3,42v
I tried different methods (with and without 10Ohm resistor), but i don´t get more than 3,42v
    Need quick help!

@Huhn: Ja schick dir eine PM wenn ich es heute noch schaffe. Schreibe dann sowieso eine Anleitung

That 100ohm resistor is to much.

Try using a 47ohm fixed resistor inline with a 10k ohm VR.

That should fix you up. Get you to atleast 3.65-3.85v.

    I´ve used a 10-Ohm resistor.
Damn no 47-Ohm resistors at home, can i use 4 10-Ohm resistors?

Sry to be off topic but what modding a 3.3v rail do?

You need it for a higher Vdimm than 3,3v

Yes, you can use 4x10ohm resistors as long as you run them in a series versus parallel.

I redid my mod last night so I could mnount it elsewhere and got it to 3.75v with some room left.

Thats on the Antec TP550 with a 47ohm in series with a 10k-ohm vr.

BTW, I think that OPP put up a guide about this very psu didnt he...?

Also, and I just noticed this in your pic, are you using an extender off the main ATX connector coming from the psu?

Yes I have tu use the extender, because the big ATX block doesn´t fit (it´s for server boards or so).
And yes there is review on xs.org, but he only described how to raise the 12v and 5v rail with the pot. Nothing about the 3,3 mod if i remember correctly

The sense wire mod will work fine I am guessing. Although not sure what the effect will be being that there is not a sense present on the extender.

I still dont follow why you are using an extender to begin with. That psu is standard and so is you board.

The extender is required because the PSU's main connector has 24 pins which needs converting down to 20 pins so it can fit on the board. My Tagan 480w is the same..

I´m not able to give more than 3,42v to the 3,3v rail.

    I´ve tested some different methods:
    - only a 1k vr gives 3,36-3,42
    - only a 10k vr gives 3,36-3,42
    - only a 20k vr gives 3,36-3,42
    - 10 Ohm resistor + 1k vr / 10k vr / 20k vr gives only 3,36
    - 20 Ohm resistor + 1k vr / 10k vr / 20k vr gives only 3,36
    - 47 Ohm resistor + 1k vr / 10k vr / 20k vr gives only 3,36
    - 100 Ohm resistor + 1k vr / 10k vr / 20k vr gives only 3,36

    WTF?
I don´t know what to do, i need more than 3,4v

10 Ohm resistor + 1k vr .... should get you their..... really strange are you sure you were turning the VR the right way? its resistance is supposed to go less and less

Yes i turned the vr the right way, the strange thing is that the voltage doesn´t go down or up, when i use a vr plus fixed resistor. Damn I don´t know what can be wrong...
btw: Did you do the mod on a TTGI PSU?

Ja aber nur für 12 und 5v Schiene. Die laufen schon auf 13v bzw. 5,6v
