GIGABYTE First to Market with AM3+ “Black Socket” Motherboards

Enabling Support for AMD Next Generation CPUs for Current AMD 800/700 Series Chipset Motherboards

City of Industry, California, March, April 01 2011 – GIGABYTE INC., a leading manufacturer of motherboards and graphics cards today announced a new line of 16 “Black Socket” motherboards previously unveiled at CeBIT 2011 that offer support for AMD’s next generation , 32nm AM3+ CPUs and are based on current generation AMD 800/700 series chipset-based motherboards.

Wanting to ensure users their motherboard is able to take advantage of all the performance enhancements that AMD’s upcoming AM3+ CPUs have to offer, GIGABYTE has equipped their entire line of AM3+ CPU ready motherboards with a new black colored socket, making it easy to spot for AM3+ support. In addition, GIGABYTE “Black Socket” series offer full backwards compatibility with AMD’s current generation AM3 socket CPUs, allowing for painless migration to the AM3+ CPUs when they become available.

    Anyone know about availability?
As quoted by LowRun......"So, we are one week past AMD's worst case scenario for BD's availability but they don't feel like communicating about the delay, I suppose AMD must be removed from the reliable sources list for AMD's products launch dates"

    Am3+ ready.

AMD aren't supporting this. They even said it may work but basically not their responsibility as they dint recommend it and for people to get 9XX series chipset instead (:

whoever gets or has one of these boards should see if that pin is actually connected anywhere or they just made a hole on the socket to look good?

Yeah thats the real question, although the one that's been burning in my mind is; when Gigabyte will start using bright greens, blues and oranges on the same motherboard again.

AM3+ "Official". The black socket is an AM3b socket with the extra hole compared to AM3.

No. It's an AM3+ board with 890FX/SB850... apparently they needed to change sockets to use Orochi CPUs.

Is it already available? I seriously need to buy one, so that I can stick my AM3 processor that's still on AM2+ on to the mobo to get on with DDR3 - need the capacity, and also for future bulldozer upgrade.

Be patient and wait for 990 that supports sli also i'm in your same situation. (Though if you really can't wait there is also a sli hack proven to work with all amd chipsets so it's not that major feature)
For those interested in the socket here it is a clearer image

Yeah, not interested in getting SLI. Plus, the hack works really well anyway. Well, anything happens and I'll have 3 computers (one bd on 890gx am3+, one bd on 990gx, one AM3 tri-core on am2+). Shortage of computers at my house is a daily problem.

GXes just in case one or two pc's don't need a graphics card.

Or maybe I'll just go for dual-socket socket G34 right now, right away. Waiting for how the clock speeds go for them though. Downside is, If I do that I'll have to re-sell my shanghai chip later on... not sure if there are any takers in my country.

Mind giving some links? From what we know, Bulldozer is not supported on AM3, and that is all. Nothing about AM3+ and 8 series chipset together.

    It says AM3 ready too

Somewhere on here there's a list and links to ASRock, ASUS, and MSI on top of Gigabyte to AT LEAST AM3+ ready boards... Mostly FYI..
