thx nizzen, intersting, nice result! that really might be the deal with these new 25nm devices....as always....raid them for best performance! except this time it looks to alleviate the 4k random issue nicely

Vertex 3 MaxIO is just around the corner...
Wonder how much it distinguishes itself from the "normal" Vertex 3 , it better add another ~10K+ iops or so

The MaxIO Edition started appearing/listing in Norwegian webshops this morning, according to the listings it will be $50-$100 extra depending on capacity.

    It just never ends...

    --

I'm a bit behing on my testing of the V3, had to redo most tests as it had started degrading at some point and I don't know when.
It's looking better this time around.

So, this MaxIO edition is using better binned NAND, or just better tuned FW ?

Is there any Spec Sheet available ?

EDIT --> As Tony said here, the differences are :

A : No, different nand type...so totally different drive

Anyone here using Vertex 3 with Asus R3E? I have some low speeds connected to Marvel 6Gps controller

Any ideas what i have to do to fix it?

Yep - looking forward to these MI V3s. Got rid of both my vanilla V3 120's already, haha. Friggin OCZ - they havn't even been able fulfill stock on V3's and they're already talkin new models. Oh well, I'm all about the speed, I just hope I'm not waiting all summer long for these while the competition gears up their next rounds...

But according to Wendy slower sequential and faster 4k random will result in these drives being “spanked”. Sorry could not resist. Times have obviously changed yet again.

    Hi Ao1

According to Tony this is only the beginning of a series of new Enthusiast SSDs from OCZ, could mean several tweaked SSDs based on the V3.

If MaxIO is using toggeled NAND then we are most likely looking at Toshiba 32nm NAND or maybe Samsung, we'll just have to wait and see.

Hi Anvil, It’s a good move to get away from 25nm. New tech, new headaches, slower 4k, less flexibility to have consistent performance at different capacities, less wear…..all without any advantage.

I thought Tony said that 3xnm nand was no longer available though?

I googled a bit and found this on 32nm toggle NAND

    toshiba_32nm_toggle_nand.PNG

So, 8KB page size, 1MB block size on Toshibas 32nm.

    Link

To be fair, the drives are more expensive and would allow for a higher grade NAND.
(not so sure that higher grade is actually higher grade in this comparison)
Currently they are shipping IMFT NAND on the V3 but whos to say that they won't change to another supplier for some batches.

Looking forward to this anyways, should be interesting knowing what MaxIO is vs Standard

I believe the 1st Anandtech review of the OCZ Vertex 3 Pro used Toshiba's 32nm Toggle NAND, so that should give an indication of performance.

I just really hope they hurry up with whatever they're doing.
I'm back on a single gen I Vertex 120. Ugh.

I'd buy one with 120GB of Toshiba SLC NAND even if it was like $700. That would be an awesome drive.

The question is, is it possible to get that much more performance out of the V3 and will it be noticeable outside benchmarks.

I'm sticking to the orders I've placed for the standard V3, I need at least one more anyways for a small raid, ETAs are slipping so I'm wondering if production has ramped up.

    edit:
I agree with you One_Hertz, there is room for more extreme SSDs.

I believe there is an EX version planned which will use SLC, and possibly the SF-2582 or 2682 controller.

Any news/bench yet on this Vertex 3 MaxIO? I was planning on buying a Vertex 3 240gb today unless I see a better performance in these new Vertex 3's on crack

FYI just found the PDF info on the Vertex maxIO 120GB version ---------> H E R E

Looks like the 120GB gets more 4KB Random Reads from 20K to 35K
and 4K Random Writes from 60K to 75K.
Mmmm I bet that 240GB is going to be very fast..

    That's pretty good

I don't think there is that much to gain on the 240GB but lets wait and see.

Crazy - nice find. Ugh. More ATTO specs.

We need some real benches on these badboys...

So using OCZ's existing specs logic:

Regular 240GB is 40K IOPS 4K Random Read vs. 35K IOPS 4K Random Read for the MaxIO 120GB
Regular 240GB is 60K IOPS 4K Random Read vs. 75K IOPS 4K Random Write for the MaxIO 120GB

    Am I reading that right?

I guess OCZ Forum says pricing will be $359.99 on the 120GB and $649.99 on the 240Gb maxIO versions..

Wish we had some specs on the 240's - those things are gonna be beastly.

    Yes, that is correct.

Best guess would be 45-50K read iops and 80K+ write iops, @ 4K.
