First off, thanks a bunch Kal-EL and OCA for getting this organized. If none of you noticed, I have not had time for benching lately. And, I probably won't for some time. There's too much to do here.

I wanted to post and show you what many of you guys are donating your hard earned money for. These pictures were taken by my friend Martin. He has been to the disaster area 3-4 days a week, every week since the earthquake. The descriptions are also from him. He has been a missionary in Japan for 25 years, and I have been heavily involved in his ministry since I moved to northern Japan almost two years ago. But nothing like this new task. This is Martin:

Please keep in mind that we are only a small part of the CRASH organization, and there are dozens of other groups working on their own projects elsewhere in the area.

This first group of pictures were taken on his first trip to the area on March 16th-18th, just days after the earthquake.

This second group of photos were taken the 2nd week (March 19th-21st). The first was a rough survey. This week the focus was locating a property to use for a shelter, and coordinating the logistics.

March 23rd & 24th were spent at the church in Ofunato, cleaning it up, and getting it ready to support survivors. Here are a few pictures from those days.

Here is the latest update from about a week ago. We're still working hard to get things in place so that the people closer in the area can become self sustainable with what we're helping with, but we're anticipating that will still take months.

I have not been to the affected areas myself yet, but I plan to start making trips with Martin over the next few weeks. I'll keep you all updated as things progress, and I get a better idea of the specifics.

Again, if you'd like to take part (big or small) in helping us, please visit the CRASH Japan site here.

    I think so.

I don't have the equipment to do any serious benching myself, but I figure that's no reason I can't help out. I'm going to match the minimum entry fee for the next 5 contestants to help us climb over 50. I'm just sorry I can't match more than that.

I urge anyone who sees the thread and declines entry due to lack of equipment to help match a contribution

Kal, Mia - Keep up the good work!
Dual CCIE (Route\Switch and Security) at your disposal. Have a Cisco-related or other network question? My PM box is always open.

Thx for jumping in and supporting the cause Serra, are the next five members coming from Team XS or is this an open to any next five willing to bench their arses off?

No need for supreme hardware to make a statement, we have folks submitting with 6800gs just to show solidarity and participation

    It's for a good cause, anyone'll do

On the hardware front... I'm basically down to a laptop and an atom-based HTPC at the moment, not really anything benchable.

Edit: You can take me off the list of eligible contestants, I'm not going to be entering any scores... I'm just here to help make sure we get more contestants (though those prizes should work themselves, you've got a good list there).

Your gift is being used to bring restoration to the devastated areas and share hope and the love of Christ with the survivors of Japan’s March 11 earthquake and tsunami.

As you may know, the mission of CRASH Japan, which is endorsed by the Japan Evangelical Missionary Association (JEMA) and the Japan Evangelical Association (JEA), is to equip Christians in Japan to be ready when disaster strikes to show the love of Jesus in practical and effective ways. We do this by providing a model of action, accurate information and volunteer training to a broad network of churches and ministries across Japan and around the world. Thank you so much for partnering with us to help make this outreach possible.

To give you an idea of the type of projects and relief support your gift has been instrumental in, we would like to share what was accomplished through CRASH Japan with the help of our volunteers and ministry partners such as yourself in the first three weeks after the disaster:

    • Delivered over 30 tons of relief supplies, including food, diapers, hygiene products, soap, toilet paper, bicycles, clothing, blankets, water and bedding and has been involved with distribution of larger amounts in cooperation with other aid organizations.

    • Mobilized over 100 volunteers into the disaster areas doing assessment, delivering supplies, mucking out homes, performing light demolition, emotional care and various other roles.

    • Had over 300 volunteers at HQ serving in various roles, everything from warehouse management, answering phones and food service to volunteer training, producing media and coordinating base operations in support of sending thousands of volunteers over the coming months and the long-term recovery of the region.

    • Established 4 regional bases of operations in Iwate, Miyagi, Tochigi and Ibaraki and numerous relationships with churches and ministries through whom we are serving local communities affected by the disaster.

    • Developed partnerships with over 50 ministries, denominations, missions and associations both within and without Japan representing millions of Christians who want to help love on Japan in the name of Jesus Christ.

None of this would be possible without the help of our partners. Again, we would like to thank you for supporting CRASH Japan and for your gift of love to the Tohoku region. Please continue to pray as we work together to share hope in Japan.

    God Bless You,

    Jonathan Wilson, Director CRASH Japan
