EVGA 8800 green lines wth do i do?

ok so got this here 8800gt i installed in a buddies comp a few years back. been great to him, keeps him WOWing well (even though i give him long speeches about the onboard being fine for that game)
now all of a sudden, green lines all over the screen on boot.
from boot all the way through. put one of my cards in his rig, all is fine.

EVGA will not cover it, he didnt register it. dont ask my opinion on that, as i have like three evga motherboards and no less than seven of their video cards. they have been good to me so.........i will give them a mulligan on this

so whats the deal, fellas, is there ANYTHING i can do?

I had exactly the same issue with a friends 8800 gt (palit), I ended up replacing it with a gts I had laying around (reseating the cooler had no effect)

Bake it. 210-220*C for about 3mins to reflow the solder connections (the solder should flow around 217*C if it's the mixture I think they use). If it doesn't fix it it wasn't a bad joint, nothing to loose as it's already broken.

You may need to bake it for longer, but a typical reflow station is 220*C+ and bakes for 40 seconds.

damnit though i blew it out with compressed air first so i lost some of that WOW OH MY GOD factor when i did. the pics of what you see is what the air would not get out. man there were chunks of this flying out it was amazing! really wish i would have pulled that top off before spraying it out.
you can see some of the crap just built up on the outside in the second pic, lol it was terrible i shoulda got a better shot of that. had to scrape it off!

LOL look at his PSU earthwatts is going to catch fire the whole air intake on the end was totally clogged.

Heretic ! Is this what you do to VGA's ? Poor Poor thing.
My best solution was to give a piece of HW a shower and let it lie somewhere warm and dry for two days.

Then you can bake it as suggested.

    That's nasty.

I still vote bake it. It's the most fun possible fix you can have. Obviously take the cover/fan etc off first and bake core up on foil ball standoffs.

Cards smell awesome when they are nicely baked

Ugh, taking a look at that makes me gag. I can smell it just seeing it and its horrible.

Def clean it out entirely, at work people have brought in some PCs that are so thickly covered in layers of ..crap just like that everything overheats.

smoking rapes hardware. and unlike dust, tar is really hard to get off - one has to wash the board with spirit or dry contact cleaner etc... people stop smoking!!

I vote cleaning with grounded vacuum cleaner, then pressurised air, then spririt, then bake if needed.

Also, if you give stuff a shower, or stick it in the dishwasher, be sure to rinse it off REALLY well with warm distilled water so it doesn't rust/corrode from the chemicals in detergent/tap water.
