Question Keep my SLI GTX460s 1GB or upgrade to GTX 590 or 580 ?

    UPDATED THREAD/TOPIC
    590 or 580

So what you guys think ? Is there something out there right now thats better then my 2 gtx 460s in SLI mode or something coming out soon, or should i just stick with what i got? Im air cooled now and will be going back to watercooling AGAIN lol..

Ok just an update, i will be most likely using a single 32 inch monitor , i came across these.. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814261099 Do you think these in SLI would be good? Im not trying to upgrade every 6 months lol.. Or would i just be wasting money and still stay with my 460s?

I decided to wait out until a new node being on 5850;s myself.
Justifying the expense for a marginal increase in performance for the lose of a couple hundred dollars at this point didnt make sense.

You could wait till later this year for the nvidia 6 series video cards and socket LGA2011 motherboards also coming. I don't think there are to many games that can slow you down to much with what you have right now. Although ATI & Nvidia have some stuff out now that is pretty nice. I'm waititng myself for the new stuff this fall maybe. But darn it's hard to wait.

Investing in water cooling now, while waiting for the new nodes, would be a smart move.
Though you may only need air by then

i dont see why u would go for socket 2011 as its just 2 1366 put together and it wont give u any benefit unless u really like crunching but then the BD looks better or going cuda for the best per watt and price.

for a gpu i would just wait as u have whats the same as the 560ti right now but with 2 clusters cut off, and since there are no high end needing games anymore since the consoles are so old that its not worth making a high end pc game for the AAA publishers as u now need more than just full rez textures i would just sit on what u have. im still on the 4890 and the only game that ive had problems with is 2033 and thats only from AO being forced in all the good texture modes.

edit- i would say if u had a 4890/285 or better to stick with it.

that wont even come close your looking at getting like $200 out of the 460s then a 590 will be over 600 and i would guess 800+ with the current 580 prices.

not really the lack of rops limits the crap out of that card, 560ti sli would be better if u are able to overclock and even the460 might be better.

How high are your 460s clocked? if their in the region of 855/4000 or faster, don't bother. GTX560 is about 20% faster than a GTX460 at higher resolutions. So if you are getting say 40FPS in a game with a GTX460, a GTX560 would be about 48FPS. Not worth the outlay for such a small gain IMO.

Hey Ket how you been buddy? Im OCed right now at a decent number, my temps get a bit warm being SLI and dont have too much cooling on the cards so the OC is mild. Well if thats the case i will just stay with the 460s and throw my system under water again and then tweak it all out.

I'm surviving Probably going to get a CoolIT ECO in hopes it'll tame my 2500k to about 70c when running IBT but apart from that I'm sitting on what I've got for now What 460s do you have? Apart from the Palit 460 coolers all others I ever say were real good. a manual fan tweak and replacement of the TIM got you a real cool running card. My 460 idles at 28c In a SLI config it would maybe be about 35c. Whats been happening your end anyway?

EH same old same man lol.. Well i finally had settles with the MSI gtx 460s :P , as i went thru the gigabyte and eVGA ones , i think these OC the best. Ya i applied my own TIM and got temps down to normal. But once i throw some EK full block covers on them ill be ready to rock and roll.. Do we still have the Bios Database floating around so i can flash these for higher Volts ?

I think the database is floating around somewhere still. Probably easier to just upload your vBIOS in this thread though and I'll mod it.

    A few things here...

1.) SLi GTX460's are fast enough to literally man-handle any game out on the market. Literally. Especially overclocked, which these things have no issue going 850+ on stock cooling even in the most cramped of conditions. No need for water cooling to achieve that clock speed.

2.) The GTX560 is about 10-15% faster at the same clock than the GTX460, depending on game and resolution. So basically, if you got 46 now you're getting 50'ish... NOT worth selling your 460's and losing out on that much cash over.

You've caught what we like to call the upgrade bug. It leads to a very expensive habit, trust me on that. There isn't a single game that you cannot max out right now, you have better performance presently than even a GTX-580, and you're thinking about upgrading again anyway?

I know what these cards can clock as I went thru three different sets to test them all.and.provide ket the BIOS to add to the library that was made . I have been watercooled on 2 different projects and just now on air , but I watercool for a few different reasons besides keeping temps low . I was curious only cuz I took some time off and wanted to see what people were doing with the 5 series cards . I'm not new to the game but thanks anywAys Diltech for your useless reply .

How is a reply that's 100% on topic useless? You asked a question, I went straight to the point with an answer.

I never said you don't need to water cool them. It's your rig; it's your choice. I was just pointing out that even on air they clock high enough to max out everything on the market anyway.

I was merely telling you that the difference clock for clock is on average about 10% between the 460 and 560. You could probably add another 5% on the 2gb card at 2560x1600 in SLi. Not worth the price difference when you're already packing twin 460's, especially since used 460's only go for around $100-$120 these days. That would mean selling both cards wouldn't even pay for 1 of the 2gb 560's at all... Yeah, I know; sad day.

But ya know... it is what it is. Thank you for your useless response to my useless reply.
