Can we stop the speculation for now? Unless we get more info, we won't be going anywhere with this.
I was hoping to make a decent thread with a list of working boards, and I hope it won't get derailed with
posts like "Boy I hope my old AM3 board will work! W00t!!" x 100.
Not trying to be rude or anything, but there are enough threads for speculation already.

The first page started to look like the argument clinic in Monty Phyton, I had to say something before we got another "Can I haz BulDåsers?" thread.
omg man, THIS IS NOT SPECULATION? THIS IS TRUE! REMEMBER FINALLY IT! AM3=941 theoretically pins, AM3+=942 pins! Zambezi=942 pins. So, its now clear?
AM3 socket cant never working with AMD Zambezi CPU! Its pin incompatible (one pin is missing on AM3 socket). But doesnt mean, u can have 800chipset and AM3+ socket board (so, "hybrid" board)-this is possible to use.

i got no problem talking about the asus update, AS LONG AS, someone shows that they are releasing the CIV with an AM3+ socket from now on. (which i think would piss off ALOT of people who first thought they had to wait until april/may for AM3+, and instead might have to just wait till mid march with absolutely no warning)

Flanker: Chill out.
I want a list of working boards in this thread, is that so hard to understand? Not people screaming at each other, dictating what's right or wrong.
If you think I have a different opinion about AM3, check the quote in my sig.
I think this needs to be clearly spoken.
AM3+ Chips (bulldozer) WONT FIT IN ANY AM3 motherboard. They need AM3+ for that (physically).
AM3 Chips (deneb,athlon II,thuban) WILL FIT IN ANY AM3 AND AM3+ motherboard.
As to why its that way, THERE IS NO CLEAR INFO, besides stating that pure fact in itself. As to WHY ,we need to wait for launch, or we may never get a clear (engineering not marketing wise) answer.
All motherboards that support AM3+ cpus have a slightly redesigned socket, most of these mainboards use already available layout and chipsets, just with different socket.Thats why "old" design motherboards (but new revision ones) will be available with support for the AM3+ CPU`s.
YOU CANT BUY AS OF NOW ANY MOTHERBOARD WITH SUPPORT FOR AM3+.
Hope that helps the confused ones.
Let's get this thread back on track..
Here is the physical difference between AM3 and AM3+
Now, JF-AMD had stated in here, that AM3+ CPU's are not compatible with AM3 motherboards - which makes perfect sense according to the above picture.
But, all of the sudden, sweclockers.com brings a newsstory, that AM3+ CPU's, will in fact fit in some of Asus' newer AM3 (890FX and 890GX chipset) motherboards.
How is this possible? There is only one way.. The boards are fitted with AM3+ sockets to begin with.
To check if a board is AM3+ compatible, it must look like the above picture. Also, it will probably say "AM3b" on the socket itself, and the AM3+ socket will most likely be all black (AM3 socket most likely white).
Oh what a mess..

I cannot say myself, if Asus has sneaked AM3+ sockets on current AM3 motherboards already sold - but the sweclockers story kinda implied it.Its AM3, so can we please drop that BS news already and focus on real AM3+ boards...
What is 100% sure is, that a board must have the AM3+ socket to support AM3+ CPU (Bulldozer).
Then this is quite interesting.. On Gigabytes website, 890FX, 890G, 880G and 870 chipset motherboards, are all showing the black socket. And if I'm not mistaken, that is = AM3+ socket.
http://gigabyte.com/products/list.as...jid=10&p=2&v=2
So it will look like some of the AM3 motherboards already on the market, just like the Asus Crosshair IV Extreme etc. has in fact been fitted with AM3+ sockets in newer revisions, but are still marketet as AM3.

the thread is so amusing.
it is obvious that we longing for bulldozer that much

Can we please get back to the AM3+ (black socket) boards please? This is getting off topic and I want to know about the new boards and not old technology (pardon my pun). Then again there are not many right now but I think many companies still want to keep this information confidential and not releasing anything.

Wait a minute. Have we seen an AM3+ CPU? Are we sure that it has that extra pin? I can imagine that the extra "hole" in the socket is only required for the 2nd gen. Bulldozes.
BTW, I don't believe the Asus story until I don't see it as an official announcment from them.

We're talking past each other - I'm sure we mean the same thing.
I meant that there are AM3 (listed as) motherboards on gigabytes HP. Therefore AM3 can be said to be compatible with AM3+ - but it's only newer revisions with the AM3+ (black) socket. Those boards shown in under the AM3 tab, will of cause be listed (also) under the AM3+ tab (when ever it gets on there).

I think what some of you guys are missing is how many actual cpu's and offerings there will be.
There will be bulldozer with and without integrated gpu. Quite possible, the extra pin is for gpu integrated bulldozers.
