Just ordered my Areca 1880ix last night and one of the common issues is the RoC and Expander chip seem to run excessively hot.

Computurd watercooled his and dropped his temps by 50 degrees c. Now for me this is going into a real server and not a benching machine, so no watercooling is possible for this application.

I was thinking about adding the following Heatsinks to replace the stock ones because they are all copper and would transfer heat better, but they are significantly smaller.

Do you think i would get better cooling performance with no fans than stock?
Could i add a 40mm fan to this, how would it attach?

Also i have never really modified anything before so can i use just regular CPU Thermal paste on these or do i need TIM (is this different?) or thermal pads?

Thanks in advance.
