This is utterly incorrect if you are referring to the Galaxy S Fascinate on Verizon. The Fascinate is stuck with Android 2.1 "Eclair," and Samsung has delayed the release of 2.2 "Froyo" for quite some time - in fact, they've flip flopped as to whether the phone will ever get Froyo or not. There have been unofficial Froyo leaks that the ROM community has pieced together for those who have voided their warranties, but nothing official from Samsung or an OTA (over the air) update. Let's not even talk about 2.3 "gingerbread" yet...

with tmobile the update to 2.2 was held up until a couple weeks affter the galaxy 4g came out, and if u look back at the omnia (i know its older and winmo) the 6.5 update was killed so people would get the omnia 2 but everything that was compatible with 6.5 was updated by htc.

Yeah well I did say international unbranded version of the Galaxy S. The delay in Froyo release is down to your carriers and the bull they want before approving the firmware, just unbrand the damn phone like I did to my pal T-Mobile Galaxy S.

Fact is we have received 3 official Froyo updates over here in UK on unbranded Galaxy S: JPO, JPX then JPY. Blame the carriers for the delay.

i agree that unbranded is better but u cannot use that with a cdma trash carrier like VZ. also HTC updated all of their phones rather quickly even though they also had new phones coming out.

Even being on 2.1 the Fascinate is still the #2 phone on the market. 2nd to the Evo. In real world usage it's indescribably faster than the X or other Droid phones. The Hummingbird CPU owns. That's all there is to it. I have the Thunderbolt and I can honestly say the Fascinate is a much better phone in every way shape and form. I can easily get 3 days of battery usage out of the Fascinate and so far I've only been able to get about 3 hours of usage out of the Thunderbolt. The only reason I'll stick with the Thunderbolt is because of the insanely fast 4G. I'm getting 20mb down at a minimum ~75-90ms . Faster than my FiOS.

If you want speed thunderbolt is the only way to go. Messed with one at a store... 8-10mbps down. 2-3 up. Orlando area! I'm about to drop my evo like a bad habit. I was going to go back to Tmobile... but now that AT&T is buying them, no thanks!

Too bad, the Evo 3d is such a better phone than the Thunderbolt. Have to decide on the best phone or better network speeds I guess.

I'd take the network speeds IMO. But I use my phone to tether my laptop a vast majority of the time.

Don't know about you but I get bored the device itself pretty quickly anyway. I don't get bored with 4G speed though.

    Update:

Have had the Thunderbolt for a few days now, LOVE IT.
Not going to root it, no need for myself yet.
This thing looks great, performs great, and i have zero problems with it yet.

Running some modded themes and widgets to make it a bet snazzier, and a task manager to get rid of some bloatware processes. Wish I could remove the Verizon Bloatware, but i dont want to root just yet...I want to study it a bit more before i dive into that mess. (or could be mess)

I give it a 8/10, -2 points due to bloatware and mediocre battery life on 4g/high data streams.

BUT I am going to pick up 2 extended batteries, Ill keep my standard fully charged and in my car for backup, 1 extended on the device, adn an extra just in case anything happens or for extra battery power if needed.

Thunderbolt is badass. My first smartphone, I've messed with iphones but this thing is amazing, I had no idea.
I went in 2 weeks ago knowing nothing, now I am rooted testing different kernels and roms... The freakin CPU is overclocked to 1228mhz from 998mhz on stock volts lol and undervolted in steps all the way down to 245mhz. Sick battery life some days. Mod and dev community rock.
