lets get it on, ooooooooooo baby, lets geeet it oonn..
SETUP
GIGABYTE X58A-OC
CORSAIR GTX2 and GTX6 kits
WESTERN DIGITAL Velicoraptor 600GB
GIGABYTE 5870
CORSAIR AX1200
ANTEC 1200OC
so i just get down to doing some subzero testing on X58A-OC and some 990X.. results look strong.. i will need to run some more benchmark as i realized tonight i can run 5050 uncore with triple channel 1050 7-8-7 and 6575 to 6600 for 3d.. so that'll help me a bit..
i defiantly got benefit from PWM switching, while other boards have had it a while, its new to giga...
i tested a few 980x and some liked 800 while others like 1000 and there was gains of 50-70MHz for me between the stock frequency and the optimal frequency..
where i benefit from most is the OC Touch facility... being able to boot at 5.7 then set my clock in windows works for me.. with AM3 you can set a higher clock and down clock just before explosion for example.. not new technology with the bclk, but the multi adjust is very nice..
i can also say it might be time to look at 1GB modules for those with chips that like very cold.. we know most 990X has a weak IMC and it is easier to drive 2x1GB or 3x1GB than the 2GB comparison modules.. the Corsair GTX6 sticks are doing the job for you, I noticed Kingston also has some similar modules that Petri is using and Chew even had some 2x1GB Hyper's in the past, so there are plenty of options around...
just some results to check the board out to start with..
pcmark05, on of my favorites, my hdd start up isn't great here so there is much more in this score - part 1 of score
part 2 of score
bit of am3 action with subzero 5870
having a look at another chip here... triple channel is something that is lacking on sandy bridge with a high clock, seems to be OK here though.. i realize not all chips like to do this..
pwm stays very cold, here i have removed the stock pwm heatsink and the board is running at no more than 30 degrees during 3d load at 1.84v~, temperature unit pointing directly at the drivermos
VIDEO OF 4G BUTTON FROM OC-TOUCH
here is a youtube video explaining the 4G button, which is part of the OC Touch functionality... this button will clock your CPU to 4GHz without any intervention.. i have used 3 different kits of 2x4GB GSKILL ram and a Bloomfield 960 here to see how it goes with a mix of hardware...
and cookie, i know why you are 2nd on hwbot now...
do i need to say anything more?
