    MSI R6950 TwinFrozr III PE/OC (mods+oc)

    Hey guys,

Received this new card in the week before CeBit, so only had a little bit of time to test it. Here are some pictures.

    Maybe a new tweak.

Halfhearted insulation for air-tweak. I must say sunshine tweak never improved my scores, I'm very skeptical towards this.

I had some temperature issues with raised voltage. The added paper between screw and PCB adds more pressure -> better temps. Now, I'm running 1.4V 1035MHz with max loaded temps of 60°C instead of 100°C.

LN2 results will come next week ... did not have much time in the week before CeBit

TwinFrozr III looks more like TwinFrozr I than TwinFrozr II ...
Signatures make my posts look huge... but I'm not humble enough to completely remove my signature, so I kept this note explaining it.

Just quickly tested this card under cold. Same phenomenon like all 6950/6970: heavy artifacting when <0°C.

Performance is okay, but some subtests crash. Not possible to bench it.

Can this be unlocked or is it not unlockable just like their Twin Frozr II edition? I really like the new design of the heatsink/fan, I've been eyeing the HD 6870 HAWK but the price puts it only $30 behind an unlockable, stock-cooled HD 6950 2GB.

Too bad, I wonder what the technical explanation to this problem would be.

    Thumbs up

Nice benching Massman , Massman how much voltage you were using during the runs ? maybe we can figure it out why its not clocking higher on LN2 and your Bios issue, as my HD6950 scales and like cold on my water chiller -21C , I will try on Ln2 this week to see how far i can take it. Keep up the good work

    Around 1.45V.

The reason why it's not 'scaling' under LN2 is because I'm not pushing the temps lower. Artifacts appear below +6°C and get worse rapidly. For instance, in 06, the card was at -1°C and the screen was completely black. At 8°C, there were no artifacts at all.

I'm sure with the right fix, this card could scale very well under LN2.

    What card are you running?

Weird , might be a Bios problem with the cold bug , It should scale subsero
im using reference Asus HD6950 , no cold bug so far at -21c and scales pretty well , mine do 1100/1560Mhz max at 1.41v. only. Ill test under LN2 this week. See if you can contact MSI for a Bios fix. I can share my Bios with you but im affraid it wont work with a non reference card.

what if you flash to 6970? still artifacts? It seems AMD is never going to work in the cold right. you see them sometimes but cold scaling on amd is so luck of the draw. at least you tried.
@ME4ME you got to give him credit for trying at least. Im sure massman had no expectations.

I tested my 6970 with Dice but did'nt notice any artifacts in any benches. temps were -55 @ idle, -30 @load (1.4V) 1150/1500, no voltmods
