    ATCS 840 Watercooling Help..

    Hey..

Okay, I've been out of almost everything to do with computers (by that I mean Overclocking, Watercooling & Uncontrollable Upgraditis since a while now)..

Basically, its been almost 4 years since I did this, this and this.

So I need a little help now...

    1) Whats the best Waterblock for a LGA 1155 CPU (i7 2600K) ?

    2) Whats the best radiator for a ATCS 840 (need to fit in the top, inside) ?

    3) MCP655 still the best bet as a pump or has the MCP355 come some way since 2008?..

    4) Best fittings and tubing size to go for..

The PC configuration is the following..
    i7 2600K
    Asus P8P67
    HD5870
    ATCS 840

I'd love if somebody could link me to Sketchup models for the ATCS 840as well as the choices of Radiators I have..
I lost the link for the website which had all the Watercooling Sketchup models, anyone care to link me?

    Thanks in advance folks!

    hmmm

    1) i would say the best cpu waterblock at the moment is the EK supreme HF
    (High Flow)

    http://www.ekwaterblocks.com/index.p...=water-coolers

    2) not sure about what to say for radiator. do you want to cool the cpu and gpu?, do you plan on doing any overclocking?

    3) i would say the best pump right now would be the swiftech mcp35x (yes, the 355 have come a long way )

    http://www.swiftnets.com/products/mcp35x.asp

    4) fittings are more of a personal choice. i like compression style fittings (EK and enzotech make some good ones), as for tubing i would recommend a tube with a 1/2" (13mm i believe) inner diameter

hope that helps, if not im sure others will chime in

For starters I want to know what parts you want to watercool. In an ATCS 849 you can fit a 3x120 mm radiator internally with the provided mounting brackets and fit 2 1x120 mm radiators on the bottom and at the rear 120 mm exhaust. If you take the hard drive cage out by drilling the rivets with a 3 mm drill bit you can fit a non-standard radiator in the front (it may require fabricating some mounts for fastening the radiator to the case and the fan to the radiator)

I'm looking at watercooling both the 5870 and the i7 2600k..

I'd be happy with one radiator on the top (clean loop), provided it performs like the PA120.3 I used to have..

So the EK Supreme HF, I'd be going for the Nickel plated version because I live in Mumbai, and its quite humid here. I remember my DTek Fusion and also my Copper Pot for benching going dark and almost black after no time at all.

Also, an EK HD5870 block, again Nickel plated.

Whats the difference between the V1 and the V2?

My advice is to place radiators in all available fan locations throughout the case.

    Would I need those many?

I don't mind really.. TA120.3 at the top and a TA120.1 at the back?

I had a Feser 120x3 cooling my CPU and a Feser 120x2 cooling my GPUs and chipset. It fit nicely when I had the ATCS 840. I wish I had taken pictures when I last had it assembled.

A single 360 radiator will be sufficient for your setup.
The 2600k has a power draw when over clocked (4.8ghz) that is inline with an i7 920/930 at stock speeds. Meaning... well there probably isn't a need to w/c it... but hey whatever

Further if you still have the mcp655 (d5) pump and it works, keep it.
There is no need to change your pump.

If you intend to use the 200mm fans along with your new radiator you must get a thinner radiator (mcr320 etc). B/c of the removable motherboard tray it will block a thicker radiator with those 30mmx200mm fans.

It would be wise to get a skythe-kama bay... front fan intake. And install a fan as a lower intake on the bottom of the case. The large 200mm intake is blocked by the decorative panel.

To give you an idea of how effective the setup is. My mildly overclocked 930 (3.8ghz) and my 5870 will stay under 50c (usually 44) when gaming.

I'll be buying everything new, so yeah I'm open to all options.

For now, I'm looking at the following..
    EK Supreme HF Nickel
    EK HD5870 Nickel
    TA120.3
    Laing D5/MCP 655 Vario

Now, what tubing is the wisest choice?.. I'd like to go with Compression Fittings.. So what brand of Compression fittings should I go for? Bitspower?

It is a great case to watercool. I was able to fit 2 360 rads internally. I'm about to add a second 5850 now.

    Alrighty. Thanks.

I think most of my queries have been answered, except for the Compression fittings part.

BP are pricier, but pretty much very good. Can't go wrong with them. You'll need 45 deg adaptors for the CPU block since they are so fat.

1/2 ID 3/4 OD tubing is best, buy thats up to you. Don't get thin walled tubing. Primochill LRT is very good tubing.
All stock for now, no need for more, but it's gonna be soon methinks.

Looks good to me. Though you may also look at smaller tubing. I use 7/16" 5/8" and never had a problem. Also make sure your hou is supported by the block.

I had used 7/16 tubing for my earlier built too, they did seem perfect, does EK/Bitspower have Compression fittings for them though? I cant seem to find any.
Or do you just use the 1/2" ID fittings for that?

Hou?.. Did you mean GPU? :P
I'm pretty sure the EK 5870 V2 would fit the HD5870 2GB Eyefinity..

Edit : Nevermind, found the Bitspower compression fittings for 7/16" 5/8" Tubing.

Can't find 45 or 90 Degree angled fittings for the 7/16" Tubing though. I guess the onces for 1/2" will have to suffice for that.

Whoops. You were right. The V2 is not for a Reference Design HD5870.

The correct one is this > http://www.ekwaterblocks.com/shop/bl...70-nickel.html

Tygon clouds. Primochill doesn't. My two year old tubing is still clean. Tygon wasn't after 6 months.

You'll need the GTX360 and some good fans to handle the heatload. Your pushing the DT with only one 360 rad.

Cool happy to be of help. As far as fittings are concerned, the 45 and 90 degree angles fit along with any other compression or barb. To keep costs down you can also use 1/2" barbs and they will fit with 7/16" tubing very well, without any issues. On the compression side, you can use EK or bitspower, both have that size fittings. Cheers and best of luck. Am in India as well.

    TA120.3 won't be enough?..
    I don't mind going for the GTX360, if it's a better Rad.
What fans should I use with the GTX360? Not really concerned about Noise much. My air conditioner is louder than my PC on Air currently. Lol.

I'll go for Primochill tubing then.

    Edit : I'm estimating that a 5870 on FULL Load, will disperse about 240W and the i7 2600k 300W'ish..

So 550-600W to be safe.. I'm guessing I'll need a second rad?.. My ambients will be around 22-23C (Air Conditioned)..

GTX360/TA120.3 top + TA120.1/GTX120 at the bottom next to the PSU?

The GTX360 will need 2000+ RPM 38mm thick fans, good ones under load for a DT of 10C, not very good.

Please read and understand the link I posted above about heatload.

The GTX is a beast, but only shows performance once above 1800 rpm. I run one wth 1850 rpm GT's and its doing a good job. I would suggest you look at the GTX, plus a 120 GTX and that should be more than enough for your needs. If you want a rad which runs well with lower rpm fans, then go for the xspc rx series.
