hm this is interesting. is this an improved stepping? for higher stable clocks?
Hi sniper, it's very weird because this CPU's doesn´t start on the MB that i test, all of them H55 like Gigabyte H55M-S2V, Asus P7H55-M/USB3, Asus P7H55-M LX in fact the Giga S2V makes a big bang and one of the power phases blow up :/.

Most likely have to wait for a BIOS update to support the new stepping. I'd email some manufacturers and make them aware of the stepping.

hi Ket, it's the same suggestion that i do. But it's strange that a new CPU it's on the market without Manufacturer support.

Google'ing the batch number doesn't return any results yet. I have noticed that the TDP of Sandy Bridge i3 is indeed 65W. If these i5 540's @ 65W are not fake Shanzhai products made in China, then I think they are most probably a new stepping, or even just rebranded from Sandy Bridge i3, which could easily reach 5GHz. If this is true I'd definitely like to have one of these gems!
It is highly possible that this is SNB inside one. I mean for marketing purpose it is reasonable to produce SNB i3 compatible with older mobo chipsets.
any further news about this?
Yes, any updates? are these really sandy bridge 1156s?
Nice - might swap out my old i3-540 if these prove to be better clockers - it would be an easy switch and Asus/Gigabyte are fairly quick about bios updates.

Actually kinda weird because SLMBQ is the older 73w C2 stepping, not even the newer K0 stepping. Hmmmm....
