More results with ASUS GTX580 DirectCU II

    Setup:
    Intel Core i7 980X @ 5.7Ghz
    ASUS Rampage III Extreme
    3x2GB A-Data XPG 2200+
    ASUS GTX580 DirectCU II
    OCZ Core Solid v2 30GB
    Corsair AX1200

Cooling by the Petri pot and Ryba's fat pot.

Marcus and I did a bit of testing this weekend with the new offering from ASUS. We had lots of problems as there usually are when benching new hardware and we're not completely satisfied with the outcome. But then again we're comparing to the crazy results from Shamino We had a good run at 1350/1225 which would've landed way north of 42K but of course it crashed in the CPU test. This was our best result in the end:

Highest single gpu in Vantage but we figure it won't last long

We did the voltage modification for the GPU a bit differently than Peter with VIDs. This way droop compensation and other stuff works as intended while it's a lot faster to mod In 2D the voltage will be 1.36v and in 3D roughly 1.4v. Then you can use software to increase voltage as far as 1.6v (ASUS Smart Doctor or Nvidia Inspector for example).

At voltages higher than 1.5v we had some OCP issues even with the mod from Peter which got us a bit confused. We figured out that the issue was per phase OCP and have included the mod to disable that as well.

Nice benching, I see the hairdryer is working hard.

"Pic of Marcus' world record in stacking variable resistors" was 1300 core too boring for kinc?

Vantage is harder to run so that's pretty damn nice result, congrats guys. I like the alternative mod as well, do you have a +0.3V version?

Oh and nice to see Kinc is still setting records

C'mon Jon, we're all waiting for the 1500MHz hair dryer magic.

very nice results! and great to see the mods are mostly about shortening resistors - that makes it easy and less risky to go for the real fun thanks for the pic!
a little bit less permanent vgpumod would be great I agree with ghz. +0,4 seems a bit high under air or water (while pencil or vr at the same place should do it )

Thanks all! It seems ours is not the highest though. Vince has been hiding this score for a while: http://hwbot.org/community/submissio...80_42064_marks

It is for sure, but we feel there's more left in this setup You can do +0.2V by shorting the soldering points left of the current modification. I don't recommend it though as it might cause some unexpected voltages for certain values when increasing in software. The maximum voltage would be 1.4v though so nothing that'll kill the card instantly

A simple switch will work as well

Yeah and I'm sure we'll be seeing it shortly with 990 Thanks, so many ways to tackle this card now, hard to decide which way to go

    The mad Swedes strike again!
Fortunately you are better at benching then handball & football

Pretty neat results, but I sense this being a teaser, I am sure both of you picked up 6ghz+ vantage chips at Intel.
