I wanted to know how my cpu copes with the newer models. As it's a cpu of the previous generation I wanted to know what the Core i7 equivalent would be when compared to my chip running at 4.1ghz with dd3 memories.

Core i7's with HT are directly comparable with HT turned off too. Gulfies aren't.
In many situations your chip will be essentially the same as an i7 with 4c/4t, but the core i7 architecture has better performance in certain operations. DDR3 adds bandwidth and a bit of oomph compared to DDR2, but a well setup DDR2/S775 Quad system will still be plenty powerful for most things. If you don't need to upgrade don't waste the cash. If you like upgrading, go for it

See how long it takes your chip to do a 1 or 32M pi run, then take a look on HWBot and browse the i7 920 rankings for the same PI runs, looking for the same time, and see what MHz they were running. It's not going to be an accurate representation of the MHz for MHz comparison, but good enough IMO

Ok well here is some help.
As far as single core power:
My QX9650 at 4 ghz did a 1M super pi run at about 11.7 seconds. And that's a bit on the high side since I was using low FSB (about 364). Most people, from what i recall, were able to break 10 second barrier somewhere over 4.5 ghz (maybe it took 4.7 ghz?) on Q9650's or E8400's.
For comparison, my 2600k @ 4 ghz does 1M in about 9.4 seconds, which may be about equal to a core 2 around 4.7 ghz. You can look for some core i7 4 ghz 1M scores for more reference.

solely depend on application used.. If you encode x264 e.g. clock2clock the i7 (not SB..) has a ~40% advantage(likely due to HT), in cpu test vantage an i5-750, has ~10% advantage c2c, in many games, (like F1 2010, or COD Black Ops) you will see a nice boost.. in your minimum/average fps. comparing to an i5 750 would be like ~3600mhz i guess
What you are looking at is a CPU thats right below a QX9770 in clockspeed but also a 1333 Mhz FSB instead of the 1600 on the QX9770.
It's like comparing an overclocked Q9650 to an i7 920...
Just compare it to any 45nm Core 2 based quad at 4.1 Ghz and you will get a more accurate comparison than what others have suggested here.
Comparing different architectures with SuperPi doesnt work very well.

In terms of cpu power alone, 4.1Ghz is somewhere close to a 3.2-3.3 i7 Nehalem. But in terms of memory bandwith and memory latency there is no way lga775 can ever catch up with nehalem and imc.
