AMD 8150 to Intel core I7 comparison questions.

First off let me say that I DO NOT WANT THIS THREAD TO BECOME A AMD VS INTEL FANBOY FLAME WAR!!!!!

Now that I got that out of the way.

I am looking at updating my current rig (see sig) and an considering the AMD FX 9150 8 core. System will be used for gaming and when not gaming folding 24/7.

How or what does the 9150 compare to on the Intel I7 series performance wise? No price comparisons as I've already scoped out pricing.

PLEASE serious non fanboy replies only. From EITHER side of the isle!

    Thanks,

    Mel

I think any of the intel's IB ( 3570k and 3770k ) will give the 8150 a run for it's money at gaming. 3570k should be a bit lower in multi-thread stuff and 3770k will be the best of the 3. I'm not taking OC in to consideration, but that should be another easy win for intel.

When gaming in question, differences are more negligible so I always vote with my wallet.
But - I think in anything else IB would snap AMD's cpu in half so it's sold if your looking for absolute performance

SB and IB both have better performance than a 8150.
    But all have great performance.
BD's are more fun to o/c and tinker with IMHO.

Overall intel would be better in terms of performance per watt

The 8150 would be a little cheaper but the amount of power it draws at load is alot higher that intel i7 so in long run you would save on power consumption when folding.

However the 8150 is fun to OC

Personnally I'd wait for piledriver to be released (around holiday season) to make a final decision...

But even than I'm sure intel would handle piledriver

About a 15% difference in performance gaming clock per clock, CPU to CPU. You can call that negligible, but it can be up to 5-10 fps.
Intel is also nearly twice as power efficient, you definately don't want an AMD CPU for folding.

My vote goes intel. AMD CPUs in the enthusiast range (FX, but they are really midrange) are simply toys IMO.

what games use more than 4 threads, the 3570 or even 2500 will beat the 8150 gaming no matter what, the 2500 is even faster in most multithreaded things like video encoding or crunching. i do like amd but at this point amd is about the IGP and price; unfortunately the BD is priced to high to win at that and it is all fm1 for budget then intel for performance ATM.

    BF3 and BF3, and still can't trump a 2600/3770K...

I'm trying not to be a fanboy but intel is the way to go for speed, AMD is the way to go if you want to throw money at the underdog, however the underdog doesn't often win.

I have a 955 BE to OC on DICE that is sublimating away now, so that's all I'm gonna say.

do you have a link, i have the 1090 and bf3 would only use 4 cores. also how do you even bench bf3 there is no bench tool and frame rate is directly related to server latency when you compare similar systems.

    Actually you are right.
I assumed it did due to the okay performance of FX CPUs...

actually the ok performance of the fx means in is 4 thread , the BD did something wrong so it acts like a quad with HT so each module likes to think its a core. hopefully the PD will fix it but with the 3570k at $185 and the old style fm1 being better than the quad core fx (cpu only) there is no room for the FX.

Is this is a serious question? I only build with AMD, and the last few years have been a disgrace.

    i2500K or up....no question.
    Zen2 Has brought AMD back!

i wouldn't be surprised if yur current CPU Q9650 @ 4ghz is faster and more efficient than a FX-8150 LOL

    read title of thread

and piledriver/vishera parts im pretty sure will have code-names for example: "FX-8350" (3 being the determining factor)

Intel! 2500k or better, especially since you want to fold 24/7. Faster, cooler, lower power. period.

Yeah but you definately want a cpu with HT.
