Also with the NB @ 2860MHz, the PC seems rather responsive

Let us know if the board does some fireworks, if so, take pics.

Ok anyways, thanks for checking !
I was already wondering, because BeepBeep2 was right with his argument of newegg making own pictures.

So now we have 2 confirmations that there is an AM3 socket on the board.
Really strange, it might be like somebody wrote in another forum:
Everything on the GD65, but the sockel, might be AM3+ compatible

Given the proximity of series 9 boards and this gd65 being a latecomer, it's possible that it's pcb is shared with one of the newer models and someone just forgot to remove the am3+ print on this version.

    That's what I wrote in posting #43:
    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...0&postcount=43

Including proof of the pcb sharing (same model numbers)

The GD70 and GD65 don't share the same PCB. Even though they are "revisions" of the same model, they aren't even remotely the same.

Just for the heck of it, I called 626-581-1551, and spoke with a tech about the AM3+, and if it is a misprint or not and the person on the line put me on hold for 10 mins or so, and came back and said "Sir, it is no mistake".

That means I am really .

i would be asking them to send you an email with someone as high up as possible, stating that you will be able to put a BD chip into your motherboard
then keep it for a few months and see if you can have them refund you the cost of your motherboard on account of them lying to you, lol.

No news, that is the official statement of MSI, heard that already from 2 other MSI guys.
    Makes no sense at all.
If you want, call that guy again and tell him that one can clearly see the socket difference between the GD65 and the BigBangConq., shown at CES.

Well, maybe the AM3b socket of the BBConq board was just a joke from MSI

Sorry for saying almost the same, didn't notice your post. The current previewed am3+ BBC flagship doesn't quite match the previous 890 gd70 or gd65 pcb, but at this point, we simply don't know how many models will be in the next lineup. There should be space for another gd65 or even gd70 and then we'll see if this was the reason for the mishap.

Dunno bout that, AM3b is the socket codename, AM2+ was listed as AM2b for a while.

Well first off they spaced the ram slots, this was likely based on feedback ( i complained about dimms running warm spaced next to each other ).

There are also other benefits, would not be surprised if this board hits respectable ram speeds now.

That in itself would change the entire PCB and trace layout alone compared to say 890FXA-GD70.

After closer inspection its differs greatly. Looks like it might be a nice bang for buck overclocker.

On a side note, interesting addition of 6 pin power for PCI e lanes, considering it only can take 2 vga's while the GD70 had no additional PCI e power and supports 4 way.

Can you please do me one last favor ?

    MSI uploaded the manual now:
    http://download2.msi.com/files/downl.../E7640v3.1.zip

They mention that there was a December version, before the current, January, one.
I guess you have the old December version. If you have some time, please compare the specification page 1-2 / 1-3.
Maybe the changes will give us some hints ;-)

    Thanks
