Waiting on C400/Vertex 3, Go with P67 or X68?

I want to build a new system. I was planning on waiting for the new SSDs like the C400 or Vertex 3. Since I plan on waiting for them should I go ahead and wait for Ivy X68 or get the P67.

Computer will be used for school work (Win 7 64 Pro & Office 2010), some games, one good monitor 24" - 26", picture work, web surfing, and research.

Any advice or opinions appreciated.

Wait for high-end SB coming in Q4 if you need more than 8 threads and if you think you can afford it (will most likely be priced considerably higher than current SB). Can also wait for Bulldozer coming in June.
For what you listed seems like P67 is just fine.

I think UD5 is just fine. Just see if you need any of the extra features (you probably don't).

You should get a P76 + a 2600k. It should cover all your needs + some.
Ivy is at least 6 months away, and the price is totally unclear now.

When it comes to MB, you should consider ASUS too, they seams to be doing better than GB in this round. But you have other options too.

I was thinking of using 2 GTX 460 2GB Versions in Sli also. This seems like it would be a good value vs performance option. I will be getting Civilization V for my next game. That is why I was thinking of the UD7. Unless some more x16 x16 Sli boards come out. Although I have read you do not really need x16 x16 for good Sli performance.

Better in terms of overclocking? bios? .. I wouldnt say better in terms of overclocking as every board clocks well even the Biostar p67 board can hit up to 5.5, ASUS does have the new EFI bios which is well..

The difference in OCing is not big on these unlocked ship, but there is some. ASUS seams to be doing better with BIOS right now, but GB will catch up soon or later.

Otherwise EFI, Intel-NIC , etc ... counts too. Anandtch has a good overview on this:

They don't have a very good BIOS (UEFI, whatever) support, though... Keep that in mind... Gigabyte's been ruling since C2Q days, I'd definitely opt for that.

A few heads up since I am going to upgrade myself shortly, and I have done alot of research:
- after what I have read the Asus boards have better layouts
- it MAY be that the new Corsair SSDs are comming very shortly, in February or even earlier, in other words within a few days. Anandtech reported they to ship in January, but not seen them so far...
- (most) Nvidia cards in SLI produce ALOT of heat, so get a a mobo board with good spacing between the PCI-E slots and good ventilated case

Guys, guys, come on! Do some research! I posted this very link on these forums 2 or 3 times.

Long before the Sandy Bridge launch, a mysterious slide depicting what was referred to as the Intel Z68 chipset made its way onto the Web.

A strange appearance at that time, the slide cased a lot of speculations about its implications, some even suggesting this could allow for BCLK adjustment, fully unlocking the chip's overclocking potential.

However, as it turned out, the explanation is a lot simpler, the new chipset being designed in order to surpass the limitations imposed by the current P67 and H67 PCH chips.

According to AnandTech, when designing the 6-series motherboards, Intel wanted to reduce the risks as much as possible, so it reused a wide part of the hardware logic found in the Lynnfield 5-series platform.

As a result, the company left a hole in its motherboard lineup, as the P67 chipset supports overclocking, but lacks the flexible display interface needed in order to use the on-die GPU, while the H67 is capable of running the integrated graphics but it doesn't allow for CPU overclocking.

This means that users who want to run an overclocked Sandy Bridge CPU have to give up on using the on-die GPU and are forced to use an add-in graphics card.

In order to resolve the issue a new member had to be added to the 6-series chipset family, the so called Z68, that is going to be launched in Q2 2011.

Unlike the P67, the Z68 will feature the required flexible display interface while also retaining its overclocking capabilities.

Furthermore, there is a strong chance that the new chipset supports SSD caching, although this is not yet certain at this point.

Not sure how this would sell tbh, I know overclocking + onboard IGP would be good but honestly who would want a 5ghz Z68 with using a IGP?
