The OEM model names mean diddly squat these days. It sickens me how OEM PCs are marketed to customers by basically telling them utter lies about the performance.

"No, you'll warrant no villain's exposition from me."
Added an update to the post about the use of HDMI 1.4a without updating to UVD 3.0. Basically, AMD added it to allow software decoding of 3D content.
Even though im not a big fan of the thread starter and his intentions were obvious, this "renaming" is quite disappointing. Probably gives an excuse to companies such as Dell to charge more for their laptops .. "new generation gfx card!"
Ok... now that thats dealt with, can we have a card with the specs of the 5770 or 5830, but based on barts so it uses less power?
I was mad but then read that it was OEM only so now I don't really care that much considering the naming in the OEM world of GFX's is and always will be a total joke/crap shoot.
so before everyone blows an artery lets think for a second. how does this affect us?????? oh wait it doesn't

When I first saw the news the first thing I thought was: "what in the world happened to Turks and Caicos?"
Seems I had nothing to worry about after all.
Well, its kinda badish.
But when oems request that kinda thing from AMD, AMD must comply.Theyre too small to frack with them.
If it isnt going to retail, than i think its okeish.
What's it matter? Who here is going to upgrade from 5770 to a 6770? AMD has a good core for this price and performance point and they felt there was no need to crowd their HD6870/6850 line. I see nothing wrong with this. Not like they are missing a feature like DX11. This more goes to show how lackluster the HD6k series was.. all due to the lack of a manufacturing process shrink.
You mean the G92 core that survived 3 generations with no changes? I guess they did give it a different heatsink

AMD FX8150 vs Intel 2500K, 1080p DX-11 gaming evaluation.
Both companies do it, its not particularly a bad thing, as a customer you should do some research before making a purchase anyway, most of us should be ahead of the naming game, but most wont be, unfortunately.
I think everyone has been numbed out by all of the renaming over the last few years from both sides, but almost exclusively by NV, that they don't care anymore. Most people are smart enough to figure out which card is which in about 10 minutes anyway.

Why AMD Radeon rumors/leaks "are not always accurate"
Reality check
I'm not surprised, nor dose renaming bother me much (I'm used to laptop market, so much renaming there)
Was just waiting for it to happen. Had popcorn all ready for this thread

It really doesn't matter, you pay XXXX dollars for XXXX performance and price is relative to the competitions lineup.
No matter what they call it at the end of the day these products compete on price and performance.
You can get a better idea of product performance by price shopping more so than comparing model numbers alone.

Isnt this what they also did with the 6970 and 6950? Arent they just renamed 5870s and 5850s?
