World of Warcraft , DirectX 11 up to 50 percent faster than DirectX 9 !

We compare the performance of DX9 to DX11 in WoW Cataclysm 4.1. We use our proven benchmark scene in the first Lich King World, the Howling Fjord. The benchmark consists of a 80-second flight from Fort Wildervar Westguard. While there is no World Cataclysm, the fjord is however resistant to the most beautiful and most demanding WoW worlds. Since the improvements of the renderer and comes across act play such as the revamped presentation of water used, the results are representative. The DX11 graphics, according to the current level is not better than DX9, there is no additional effects are used. Consequently, DirectX 11 only serve the acceleration.

And that's why a good DX10/11 implementation has more advantages than just tessellation and other features.
DX10 was conceived mainly to get rid of inefficient and bloated legacy code.

I simply can't wait until this crappy console generation dies and frees us from it's miserable and cancerous existence.

I know that I saw a nice boost in performance when I started using the DX11 renderer.

Wow that is impressive. I know WoW players that have complained about the DX9 WoW inefficiencies. Hot damn that is a nice improvement

But DX11 is easily using almost 1GB vram, which would make the fps drop to sub-10 when starting two instances on a 1GB card.

Given that it probably was originally written in DX11 and then ported to DX9, that doesn't surprise me.

Does it look any different, or did they "just" substitute DX9 with DX11? If so, it would show that DX11 is indeed more efficient and would give moaaarr FPS if the devs would not treat DX11 as an afterthought, patching some eyecandy DX11 features into their games.
Notice any grammar or spelling mistakes? Feel free to correct me! Thanks

    It says..

It's just ported, nothing extra included

It looks the same (I think there are some additional water shaders that can be enabled, but basically they are the same)

Even DX10.x is faster then DX9, but till now we only saw very few games that where actually programmed with DX1x in mind. The tacked on DX1x as we see in so many games actually does nothing at all...

DX11 currently is a Win-Win... it either gives you more fps and looks the same as DX9 or you can use the additipnal performance to implement better graphics.... and retain the same performance as DX9.

and they we will be plagued with the next generation of obsolete before launch console junk. I do agree though that I will be a major boost for us as PC gamers tho. the gaming industry seems to work on lowest common denominator style.

back on topic that is a massive boost and great news for WoW fans every-ware. nothing beats getting free performance from a patch...

this is definitely a game where tessellation can be used properly to give people good polygon counts, but at the same time only if you are close enough to the objects.

i honestly dont think blizz has really dont anything impressive. the requirements keep going up, but the only thing theyve made noticeable was higher res textures

One is a console port and the other is the best selling pc game of all time from a company famous for supporting their products. I don't see why anyone would be surprised.

    Yet wow still looks terrible..

Another thing I find funny is AMD/Intel would snipe any of our Moms on a grocery run if it meant good quarterly results, and you are forever whining about what feser did?

Matter of opinion. I love games that push towards photorealism, although I love the art style of WoW.

It could do with some more updates though, and thanks to running DX11 now the game is less of a lagging mess in over crowded cities; and just runs better in general.

WoW apologist have been making that argument since it launched. Face it, graphics by Fisher-Price does not define a 'style' and is certainly not art. Its more along the lines of artistic laziness combined with the need for low poly models so intel integrated from 2003 can run it.

I'm certainly not apologising for WoW, I happen to like it's little style. I don't even play it anymore and when it comes to online games I've played far far more of GuildWars, CS:S and Battlefield games.

It's just my opinion that it's not ugly, sure it's lacking but I kind of like it.

I also love that this whole thing shows that DX11 is not just about more eye candy, it's about performance. The one thing we all love.
