Shame I was hoping the 67xx was gonna bring some small power increases and power consumption decreases

Uhm - its probably not a direct rename - they added DX11 and OpenCL to these...and they need a product that sits below the 6850...and they need to phase out the 5xxx series.

    Main Rig

    Core 2 Quad 9650 (SLB8W, E0 Stepping) @ 4.0 Ghz (445 x 9), Tuniq Tower 120
Asus P5Q-Deluxe, 2301 mBIOS by Ket
    8gb Corsair TwinX PC8500 @ 2.0v, 5-5-5-15 Timings (5:4 Ratio)
1GB AMD Radeon 6850 (850 Mhz Core, 1000 Mhz Memory)
    24" Dell U2412HM (1920x1200, e-IPS panel)
    1 x 500gb Hitachi P7K500 SATAII (Boot & Install)
    1 x 1Tb Hitachi 7K1000 SATAII (Media Drive 1)
    1 x 2Tb Hitachi 7K2000 SATA III (Media Drive 2)
    Samsung SH-S183A SATA DVD±RW drive

    Entertainment Setup

    Sony Playstation 3 (160gb, 65nm), Samsung 37" 1080p LCD, 2 x Controllers, Blu-Ray Remote

I refuse to participate in any debate with creationists because doing so would give them the "oxygen of respectability" that they want.
Creationists don't mind being beaten in an argument. What matters to them is that I give them recognition by bothering to argue with them in public.

Who cares? You wanted them to design a whole new chip in order to slide it under 6870/6850? That would be colossal waste of time and money. They already have the chip that fits perfectly in that performance segment,it's called Juniper... It has already proved itself on the market, why re-invent the wheel then? Makes zero sense ,no matter how you look at it.

AMD will do whole line-up refresh on 28nm,then you will have "brand new" mid range card(that will probably spank 6870/5850 ).

    5xxx had a complete DX11 lineup

UVD2.0 tells us that it's the same chip

but i don't think that it's suprising; juniper is a very small chip and highly competitive against GTS 450 (it completely destroys all 450 editions at the same price point); even a new 550 won't be able to touch it

Because it's called marketing. AMD's latest lineup is named 6xxx,they can't have products with different names. This way it's easy for potential buyer: 67xx<68xx<69xx<6990.Prices and names are in line with performance.
What *new" features would you get if AMD designed a new mid range DX11 800/720SP GPU with similar specs as Juniper? Answer :nothing. Then why do it in the first place? (rhetorical question)

1.4a, while the 5700s were 1.3 (no bluray 3D). Bingo.
Not that I agree with any of it though, I thought it would be 69->68->66...

I have this nagging suspicion that the threadstarter is actually Chinese, but trying so hard to pretend to be westernized. ugh.

Maybe we just "Flash" the HD5770/HD5750 the VBIOS with HD6770/HD6750 , and get HDMI 1.4 native support wtih HD5k family ?

I'd be upset if this were with a performance part instead of a gimpy mainstream one. The people effected by this aren't likely to complain--they just need simple to understand naming schemes. There are some exceptions (non-gamers on here for instance), but largely we're talking about the people who assume a 6000-series anything is going to be faster than any 5000-series card. You'd be surprised how often I get asked stuff such as: "Is a 5470 faster than a 4890?"
Particle's First Rule of Online Technical Discussion:
As a thread about any computer related subject has its length approach infinity, the likelihood and inevitability of a poorly constructed AMD vs. Intel fight also exponentially increases.

    Rule 1A:
Likewise, the frequency of a car pseudoanalogy to explain a technical concept increases with thread length. This will make many people chuckle, as computer people are rarely knowledgeable about vehicular mechanics.

    Rule 2:
When confronted with a post that is contrary to what a poster likes, believes, or most often wants to be correct, the poster will pick out only minor details that are largely irrelevant in an attempt to shut out the conflicting idea. The core of the post will be left alone since it isn't easy to contradict what the person is actually saying.

    Rule 2A:
When a poster cannot properly refute a post they do not like (as described above), the poster will most likely invent fictitious counter-points and/or begin to attack the other's credibility in feeble ways that are dramatic but irrelevant. Do not underestimate this tactic, as in the online world this will sway many observers. Do not forget: Correctness is decided only by what is said last, the most loudly, or with greatest repetition.

    Rule 3:
When it comes to computer news, 70% of Internet rumors are outright fabricated, 20% are inaccurate enough to simply be discarded, and about 10% are based in reality. Grains of salt--become familiar with them.

Remember: When debating online, everyone else is ALWAYS wrong if they do not agree with you!

    Random Tip o' the Whatever
You just can't win. If your product offers feature A instead of B, people will moan how A is stupid and it didn't offer B. If your product offers B instead of A, they'll likewise complain and rant about how anyone's retarded cousin could figure out A is what the market wants.

Because the nvidia rebrands were on high end cards that were sold for top dollar. Oh wait that kinda make it worse. Never mind.

Also, this type of rebranding should never be done by any company. Marketing isn't an excuse for misleading model numbers.

What a ty rebranding. Unless they plan to seriously knock off prices it's really bad as it's a direct transfer. Usually if they do rename, they move "last year" top models into "this year" mid end models. Not from mid end to supposedly another mid end...

Cool, new midrange cards from AMD.

Anyone want to upgrade their 5770s to the new 6770s? I would have done if I had waited longer for the awesome new 6770 cards before getting 460s.
