Trying to push past 4.7 on Maximus IV Extreme-Z

I have attached screenshots of my bios settings. I can't seem to get prime stable past 4.7. I have tried vcore all the way up to 1.5v but I can't prime for very long being that there's way too much heat. I see a lot of people getting 4.8 on less voltage than me. I realize every chip is different, so this may just be what I have, but I would appreciate any help you guys can suggest. Rig specs are in sig.

I haven't overclocked since q6600 so some of these settings are new to me. I was also wondering about the different levels of llc. My last board was maximus formula se and there was only enabled and disabled for llc, now there is 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%. When people are posting that they are on a certain vcore, lets say 1.4v do they mean 1.4v in bios or 1.4v actual voltage underload with llc factored in? Should I try upping cpu pll? I haven't messed with that yet. Thank s again.

Since its not about the FSB or memory ratio any more I think its more to do with correct mix of Vcore+PLL etc to get CPU to that extra few 100mhz over what your Mobo can do by its own (4.6GHZ is highest auto OC).

I have booted with the auto 4.6GHZ then upped it manually to 4.8GHZ but not did any benching but I cannot even post at 4.9GHZ and have not really played with any setting yet due to bugs etc with this build and early Bios releases!

no sense in stability testing if the vcore may possibly be high enough to degrade your chip. not much difference with 4.5ghz and 4.7ghz all of these speeds beat bulldozer (hahhahahahaha)

I am fully happy with 4.7. You know how it is though, if we can get that other 100mhz then we're going to try. I can successfully boot into windows at 5ghz if I want to but the vcore is at 1.5v to do it.

I would try upping your vcore. I need 1.42v for 4.8Ghz on one of my two 2600K's

I've tried up to 1.45 vcore and can't prime. I can run programs in windows with 1.42v though. I may have just hit the wall for this chip. Kinda seems like 1.42v is more than a lot of people I have seen that are getting 4.7, I'd like to either lower my current vcore for 4.7, or up to 4.8 at this vcore or maybe a step or 2 up. Besides vcore and llc are there any other key settings I have missed?

Are you sure you stability problems comes from vcore and not for example a low vram? I'm seeing you are on 1.58vram and memory set at 2133, maybe kind of low voltage, depends on your ram, but I would try lowering ram speed, or moving up your vram to at least 1.65 (without droop). Cheers.

Oh ya sorry, haha. I initially came upon these results with my dram voltage @ 1.65v (that is default specs). Yesterday I lowered the voltage to what you see in the screenshots and ran memtest overnight and all day at work resulting with zero errors so I am leaving that.

Currently I have lowered my ram settings back to 1600mhz and dropped my vcore one notch. Running prime again for a couple hours.

On a side note, I recently read that if the vccio is not within .5v of whatever the vdram is set then there could be stability problems and possibly damage. I must admit that I have not tried to prime at a lower voltage than I am at now after bringing vccio up to within .5v of vdram. I will have some new results in a few hours.

    Testing with vcore @ 1.415v. 4.7ghz.

    vcore phase control manual
    set 2nd setting to ultra.

also 8gb ripjaws. what are the timings, and is it 4x2gb or 2x4gb?

try setting all dram data and ctrl ref to .49 if you are using 4x2gb. i found its the only way i could run 1T with maximus + all dimms occupied.

also, try pll overvoltage OFF. you arent at the usual 48x barrier yet so it may work for you.

Tried these changes with the exception of the dram data/ctrl ref settings. I am using 2x4gb sticks with 9-11-10-28 2t timings.

Prime won't run for more than a couple minutes on small fft's until I get blue screen. This is on both 4.7 & 4.8.

It kind of scares me too, I'd love to figure out a way to lower vcore. I just can't prime with any lower. Temps get out of control too, they max out around 84 after about 15 minutes of prime95 small fft's. While gaming it stays in the 50's and low 60's. I reseated the d14 a couple of times and temps do not change.

Time to increase the cooling to that cpu. That should gain you about .050 headroom and also scale about 100 mhz at current volts. mine does about 5 gig at 1.350 if I use anything that could actually be considered water cooling compared to the h70 I tossed on now.

I have always watercooled my q6600 but I opted for air this time around, maybe I should have got a new waterblock instead of the d14 haha! Does anyone know of an adapter for a Swiftech Storm to fit socket 1155?

Oh, and I decided to see what 4.6 can do. I set vcore to 1.38 and have been running small fft's for almost an hour so far. Max temps are still hitting 78 I think if I have to run so much voltage to get 4.7 or more, maybe I will scale back to 4.6 and see how far I can drop the volts.

Think 4.7 on 1.42vcore for daily usage is too much? I have been trying to understand the offset voltage thing, but can't quite figure it out yet. When enable it, I am unable to select my vcore, it seems to go automatic. That sound right?

Whyd do you use the bclk ? When I do so on my M4E for some OC sessions I get all the wierd thing it used to happen in X58, coldboots, stuck e "BIOS" loading screen etc. Althought my OC is stable, that's why I don't use bclk for daily. Do you have any of this problems ? Woudn't be smoother tu use 47x 100 with mem = 2133 10-12-10 ?

Performance wise this timing/speed combo works best not to mention my IMC needs cold to scale further with 16g installed, 8 gig is fine higher but not 16g.

Bclk wise no issues, then again my chip is good for 110.3+ bclk. No hard resets or any crashes. System is rock solid.
