Asus P8P67 Pro + 2500K + CrossFire 6970's = no way to reset BIOS...

So I figured the lack of a rear panel clear CMOS button meant maybe Asux had better "failed overclock recovery" than previous generations, the lack of a clear CMOS button on the board further enforced that hope.

Turns out you can't have a card in the second PCI-e slot and be allowed to reset the BIOS period. Card blocks both the jumper and the battery.

Having all sorts of fun learning to OC a new platform with a BIOS that can't be reset

There is virtually no recovery with this setup if you choose a setting the board doesn't like, maybe a new BIOS will address it, but probably not based on my previous experiences with Asus BIOS support

Just figured I'd post a heads up should anyone choose to venture into SNB with this board, plan on having to route a lame CMOS clearing jumper wire outside of your case.

Oddly, with the 1053 bios mine just resets itself fine if I fail an overclock attempt... starts for a second, then restarts itself with a prompt to press F1 for settings, "overclocking failed". I'm on a 2600K with the P8P67 Pro. I have had no issue at all with needing to reset the CMOS with my oc'ing attempts.

Interesting. I've tried the BIOS mine shipped with (forget number, not available on the site) and now I'm on 1053 and it fails hard every time. Boot loop forever and won't boot even if I turn off the PSU and let it sit for 10+ minutes.

Can overclock recovery be turned on/off in bios ?

my pro will recover itself, but it takes about 1.5 minutes to boot when booting cold. and on a reboot, it takes about 20seconds to get to the screen prompt. seems they are going to wrong way on boot times.

I'll have one of these tomorrow. I thought they're suppose to boot faster than the old bios ?

I have the P8P67 Deluxe version and it loops like yours but when it does that I hold the off button till it turns off and let it sit for a few seconds. Then push the on button and it boots to overclocking failed please hit F1 to enter bios.(Bios version 1053)

That is what mine does and how I handle it. Saves settings fine though...

I had same problem the way I cured it was setting power lead out resetting bios and then entering 1.6V as dram Max. It hasn't caused a problem since. I have Corsair GT's 2000 Btw. It seemed before like the settings were not saving and evrry time I cold booted failed to overclock failed.

I am not sure if this will work on these boards, but I had a DFI X38 that would reset the CMOS if you held the reset + power button down for 6-7 seconds. It was not documented anywhere I could find but it worked every time.

I tried to SLI ... and it was a nightmare everytime i had to reset !!!

I've tried button hold, reset, etc and it just keeps with the boot loop.

After further testing it does seem to happen primarily when changing EIST/Speedstep/C1/C3/C6 state type settings. If there is just insufficient vcore or too tight of RAM timings it will boot successfully after a hard shutdown (PSU) and a minute or so.

Hoping it will be addressed with a BIOS update, but like I said I'm not holding my breath. Funny that they couldn't toss a reset button on the board, the traces and surface mount pads are there for one

I haven't, I will though.

I'm learning what settings not to change to avoid the boot loop, but it's still frustrating.

I also can't cold boot after a few hours with the PC off, even at 100% stable settings Thinking my board might be a half borked edition.

P8P67 Pro recovers fine here.
Froze during windows load screen, board reset by itself (well I did push the reset/power on very shortly, but dont think it affected recover).
Froze and bsod'ed in Windows, after memdump was done the board reset (didnt touch a thing).

Hey guys, have a question... I'm trying to OC my RAM on the P8P67 Pro (1053 bios), but the DRAM Voltage setting seems to have no effect... it reads 1.51v or so on the voltage to the left, even if I set it to 1.60-1.65v in BIOS. Any way to change/fix this?

I've ran into this probblem on many boards in the past.

A quick fix is to mount a switch somewhere in the case that can switch between cmos pins and reset the bios and then install the video card.. Its a bit of work but saves from alot of hassle.
