Little feedback on Sandybridge setup if you don't mind

Hello everyone.

I'm gonna be picking up some parts to upgrade from the old Q6600, and I just wanted to make sure that I was picking quality stuff that's all going to mesh together well.

I apologize in advance for the somewhat "n00bish" question as it were, but when tech isn't going at a fast enough pace for me I tend to get a bit out of touch. As if my ancient cpu isn't enough indication of this.

Anyways, this is what I'm looking at right now:

Any thoughts and opinions are welcome, particularly on the RAM. That's the only component I'm really unsure on. With how cheap DDR3 is, I don't want to get something sub-par.

I'd get a Gigabyte motherboard, and Ripjaws X RAM. Perhaps 6950 unlocked to 6970 instead of GTX570, but this might be your personal preference. And are you sure you don't want HT from 2600K?

Thank you for the response! I know that not very many people travel into the Info and Support section these days.

I've had three VERY bad experiences with Gigabyte, so I'd kind of rather stick to Asus honestly. However, I consider myself a reasonably open minded person. So, do you have any specific reasons for Gigabyte over Asus?


As for the ram, I had coincidently been looking at that X series stuff, wondering if it was worth the extra $5.

Any idea if there's any specific differences? Or is it just binned to a lower voltage than the standard 1600mhz stuff? Either way, I think I'll probably just drop the extra $5 unless there's compatibility issues with SB.


Lastly, as for the GPU. I've actually been waiting for the 6000 series for a long time, and I've been planning to buy it. But, after the kind of poor numbers and grinded-down plastics, I just can't. At least in the benchmarks I've looked at, the 570 just seems better overall.

However, again, I'm not TOO stubborn, so if you could link me to any info that takes ATI's side, I'd be more than happy to at least look at it.

I'm actually getting this all as a birthday present from my parents. As a poor university student I have to be somewhat opportunistic you see.
