What happens if you happen to get rid of the defective laptop, but still have the original receipt ? Anyone knows? Thanks in advance.

If you read the FAQ it explains all questions, you can still be reimbursed for your costs of fixing it.

I doubt most people who bought their laptops in 2006 still have them... Still, it's nice that there's justice and something is being done.

So my asus g1s with 8600gt aint covered? Its gpu is actually under clocked just to keep stable! Also randomly artifacts.

    So lame.

Anyone got a shotgun, and good video camera? Time to take video of me shooting my g1s laptop.

Unless I'm mistaken, only certain brands namely HP, Dell, Compaq and Apple are covered. Luckily my Asus W7S had its 8400m die while still under warranty so Asus repaired/upgraded it to W7Sg with a 9300m.

I already had gpu replaced when it was under warranty, but of course I didn't know at the time buying from best buy gave you 1 year warranty instead of 2 like everywhere else.
O well at least second one lasted longer than first -_-

this is only for HP, dell and apple, the foreign OEMs were not included but i think asus extended warranties and replacement.

I'm still running my Asus G2S from July 2007. Since September 2008 it's basically been on 24/7. But lately I've had more and more of the random artifacting that isn't completely temperature related.

Im the only one to think it's a little bit late, when all this concern laptop sold between 2006-2008. Ok a class action have been needed, but well im sure guys who have a laptop since 5years with problem should be really " happy " now.

it got tied up in court for 2 years, and the judge in the original OEM v NV case gave an award for the companies to pay for new laptops and warranties when they died but then the OEMs used that to cover replacements with the same parts they had onhand. and the sadest thing is that they are replacing most HP with compaq q50 but there are q50 models that some are still sold with the 8200 IGP (a defective part used in laptops covered by this)

so its really been going since 07/08, but yes its rather late

I had the 8400M GS in my Acer laptop die on me a couple of months ago. Bought an ATI 3650 from ebay for 50€ and replaced it.

Not just you, see my reply above.
But at least -something- is happening. Usually manufacturers (especially as big) get away with such things...
Might be not an exactly adequate comparison, but look at Xbox360, most of the old ones got RRoD after being power used for some time.

I'm submitting my claim tomorrow. I still actually have and use the laptop. I can't use it for gaming, but it sure does everything else I need it to do.

    - I actually had to go buy an ATI card to throw in the machine when the Nvidia card died a few years ago.

I had an Acer laptop with the defective ship. I had to bake the motherboard to recover it.
As quoted by LowRun......"So, we are one week past AMD's worst case scenario for BD's availability but they don't feel like communicating about the delay, I suppose AMD must be removed from the reliable sources list for AMD's products launch dates"

Could this have something to do with tin whiskers and the ROHS compliant lead free soldering process?

or the EU, but mostly NV for knowing that they needed a redesign but not doing anything and having it span multiple generations of parts and still selling them, making me dislike them

wow, this sure took a while!
after all this time, all they do is reimburse you the costs and dont give you anything extra as an apology... cant really call that looking after your customers, can you?
this is the LEAST they could do...

customer protection laws really need to improve...

EU needs to sue nVidia or the EU branches of the listed USA companies need to do so. I have no clue if it's being done, or just ignored?
