Need Help Overclocking UD9 / 980x to 4.2Ghz on Air.

    Hello,

I have built this system to be my video editing rig, and I need help pushing my PC further to 4.2 GHZ and running stable. Currently I am at the specs below with my PC, however I run prime95 which crashes and at one point a core dropped down to 50% load and failed.

So please look at my specs below and suggest what I need to do further to stabilize a 4.2GHz Overclock on the 980x

    Thank you.

QPI VTT at 1.58 ? that's nuts on a 980X... Try 1.35 and drop down CPU PLL to 1.6ish

Also try first CL9-9-9-27 Trfc 100 and try to tighten up later...

This should be a walk in the park (normally), but you are using Bloomfield voltages, which is not a good idea on Gulftown...
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

Gangifilms, Disable XMP before you fry your MOBO. Your BIOS sets your QPI/vtt voltage with XMP enabled - That's way to high. For a 24/7 OC you should never go above 1.4v - (1.395v) and thats if your system can handle it. When benching I sometimes go above that - BUT thats just for a short period. With a 4.2GHz OC with 24gigs of RAM @ 2000MHz I need 1.35v Vcore and 1.375v QPI/vtt. I'm on "WATER" and I'm not so sure you will be able to do that on "AIR". Disable XMP - Set all RAM timings to AUTO - see what memset sets them to - then you can manually set RAM timings and start tweaking them ( backing them down/tightning them up). Good Luck wibujo

This mobo + this cpu ?
4.5Ghz Stable HT on 24/7 should be easy with that beast of UD9, of course except if your 980 sucks
