Question Looking for a GOOD single card

Hey guys! Well so far i am running SLI with 2 MSI GTX 460s , but honestly i dont game too much anymore , im air cooled now rather then h20, and i am looking to go the single card route again. What would you guys recommend would be a good buy? Are the new 500 series run cooler then the 480s? Sorry i been MIA for a bit on the forums so i havent caught up with all the news . Thanks!

GTX570 is nice, if you want Nvidia. It will be slower than 2x GTX460s of yours, though.
I'd get AMD HD6950 and unlock it to 6970, personally.
5xx cards run cooler, indeed, thanks to the improved stock cooler, somewhat improved GPU and a power draw limiting chip.

If you are running 1920x1080 or less I'd give the nod to the 570 myself. I personally like Nvidia drivers more for few reasons ( but I don't want get into that here ) The 6950 would be a solid bet as well and costs less.

depends on your budget, I like my 570, but if you want to save some cash, the 560 is due out this month and could meet your needs

i've had two gainward 460GLH editions in SLI and sold them out due to the fact that i went from air to watercooling. The performance was great i must admit but there were some things i had to think about(two gpu waterblocks were just to expensive and it just wasn't worth it).I choose the GTX 570 and i must say i am very pleased with the performance plus i get the OK and physix(i actually like how games look on nvidia better then on AMD cards...the water in just cause, the phsyx in batman and mafia 2)

If you are not into extreme and just want casual play fun the answer is that you already have the single card you need.I think a single GTX 460 is enough for just gaming at the present.for having the same perfomance you have now in a single card i probably will go for an GTX 580.And this is a no way to go (too expensive i think).Your right choice can be a gtx 570,a liuttle bit less performance but a single card. And is nvidia with all the good stuff on it as Physx or 3dvision posibility.

Ya i have been thru the whole custom water setups and all that lol, built 3 projects etc. Im just gonna want a single card that can put out as much as my 460s in SLI or a little better.

Then you want a GTX 580, you won't be happy with anything less.

A 580 is my vote to. Clocked high enough they match and exceed stock 460s plus they are fun on water

    580 is my vote.

I have two unlocked 6950s now but the ONLY working drivers for the new 6900 series is a big hit or miss... DX10, DX11 games run incredibly fast in crossfire, but fully working OpenGL, DX9, OpenCL and directcompute support are a joke compared to Nvidia or even the 58xx/59xx series...

Easy to test this too... just run Uniengine's Heaven Benchmark in all the APIs (opengl, dx9, dx10, dx11) from 4xAA to 8xAA at max settings.

Wait until the next driver release if you are curious to make up your mind.

Ummmm You don't game anymore and you're asking about 5xx cards?? Why don't you just remove 1 GTX460? 1 GTX 460 can play anything out there right now (should you choose to game) and it's great on power this thread seriously makes no sense to me.
