Core 2 Duo E4500 OC'ing

Is 75 C typical for an E4500 at stock Vcore?

I reseated my Thermaltake V1 countless times and still get high Linpack temps.

That's at 310x9.0.

With Windows Vista 64-bit. Linpack in 64-bit mode.

And tried many different paste application methods.

I want to go for 3.1 or 2.9, maybe 3.0, but this thing seems as hot as a Core i7. lol.

But, I'm 1 hour LinX stable at 2.79, even when at almost 80 C. (estimated, based on RealTemp assuming 100 C TJMax)

Usually no higher than 63 C with Prime95.

check the motherboard probe as well if its stable i don't think its running quite that high

No he's saying there is an issue with the thermal probe not reading correctly. Maybe you can update your bios and see if it fixes your issue. Also make sure nothing is set to auto in the bios when it comes with voltage settings. Sometimes the motherboard goes overboard with voltage adjustments. You can also take a straight edge and see if the IHS is leveled.

check what your motherboard says the temp is in the BIOS or with a windows based client if that doesn't read 70C then your probably fine.

The cpu has a built in thermal sensor, so motherboard sensors are irrelevant.
If your using realtemp, or coretemp then your reading from the built-in sensor.
I have a e4300 in one machine and yes it can get really hot at stock voltage, it will do ~2750mhz on stock volts, and will load in the 70's depending what is loading it, i.e. prime95 10k fft's will really make it sweat.

Also I've seen i7's get way hotter when running stress test's, so no I don't think it's quite as hot as i7,
and mid 70's arent that bad especially considering your running stress test, your normal apps won't load it as hot.

Do prime95 10k ffts's and I bet you see it get way hotter.

I've had my e4300 for about 4 years now and I have abused the hell out of it, and it still works just fine, so no need to worry.

What is he gonna do, buy a high end cooling solution for a low end CPU? FAIL!
By the time he spends the $$$ to tame that CPU he could buy a faster and cooler 45nm E5500 for less.

Also don't even bother suggesting him to lap it. I lapped mine and it made no difference.

I say just use it like it is, and perhaps beef up the fans/airflow in your case.

I said leave it if you read my post if its stable its not overheating temp sensor is probably just wrong.

I'm not even maxing out the FSB. The P5QL Pro easily does 363 with other RAM I have. (but it's only 1 GB)

I had an E4500 on the same board I currently have. It only did 3200Mhz or so. Wasn't a great CPU, but then my board isn't a great board!

in all honesty the V1 is garbage for air cooling look into a hyper212 if you want cheap better...my e4500 hit a bit higher but was on a P5Q-pro

hyper212 is $30, if he saved up ~$30 more he could get a faster and cooler CPU

This guy is a pull from an Acer, because the Acer mobo can't OC.

And the Acer mobo took the E2180 that was taken out of my Asus P5QL Pro mobo. (During August, 2009)

:Ok so to sum it up you have this e4500, and your concerned with it being too hot (I think your fine), the only option that you have is to upgrade your cooling or just live with it. If you upgrade your cooling then your out more $$ that could be used towards a newer, faster, lower power, and cooler cpu.

I say live with it, like I said you are fine in the temps that you have. I have, and have had many many many intel CPU's some ran hot some run cool, I have never once killed a CPU in my 15+ years of professional computer experience. The worse that will happen is at about ~90c your computer will just shutdown or reboot.
