Guys, which voltages other than vcore do you tune to improve stability? I generally only change vcore and that's been done but the last few pre-tested CPUs have not lived up to expectations so I know I'm doing something wrong. For example, I have a 2700K now that the previous owner got to 5200 1.42 LinX stable but my LinX fails as soon as load kicks in at 5000 1.42v. This CPU also seems to cause vdroop where others haven't, eg with second highest LLC I usually find loaded voltage at windows doesn't fluctuate and sits at set value where this CPU droops 0.01-0.02 under load. It's not excessive but it's not common in my own testing.

    Any help would be great

For 24/7 I only tune vcore, vccio, and pll. Maybe you should play a little with the vrm response also. I always try to set as max vdroop control as possible, I preffer that voltage go up and not down in load scenarios.

Not fair Cele, you have near phase change cooling just by opening your window (looking at the weather temp there) ....

You chip is golden one,if you can hit 6 ghz with it on ln2 you might as well sell it for 2-3k$.Congrats on finding that gem

A good chip you got! Particularly the low voltage. I never get lucky. Mind telling us the batch #?

Its easier to do that with a 2500K than 2600K ...

    Whoopi fooking do nob-head.

I thought this was a thread to post experiences and not some sort of pissing competition.

Things have obviously changed sinced I first started posting here. To be honest it is all rather easy nowadays, you no longer have to know how to solder bits onto motherboards, graphics cards etc and simply just have to spend money it seems.

This sort of attitude is part of the reason why I stopped being interested in participating.

I shall feck off again from whence I came.

Andy - sorry mate it wasnt meant to be a dig, what I meant was im frustrated at my own attempts to achieve this with 2600K and 2700K, and I see so many people posting results like this here and I cant, thats all, it wasnt a dig.

Im on my 12th cpu, not alot by some standards but to me it is alot and still no luck. All I meant is that its a little easier without Ht, thats all, I didnt mean to rock the boat.

You'll have to test it to know for sure. Equal batches behaves different, and sometimes by good margin. Good luck!

    Greetings XS,

Long time member but been out of the game for a little while, picked up a 2500K because I needed an upgrade for BF3 multiplayer, threw it on a cheapo ASRock motherboard (the 120$ one) and threw it in the watercooling loop on my old Swiftech Apogee, shares the loop with Radeon 7970

So far I am priming at 4.8Ghz and 1.288v but my temps are about 70C under load! Either these new chips run hotter than I thought they would, or I need to re-seat my water block. Even for a Swiftech apogee I think I should be getting better temps at such low Vcore. But I won't complain because 4.8 Ghz at 1.288v looks to be pretty decent from what I've seen.

Updates and max multiplier testing to come later on when I have time.

    Cheers

    edit
    chip is malaysia, L201B309
4.8 ghz 1.3v to be prime stable past 30 minutes
    5 ghz 1.4v prime stable
    4.7 ghz takes only 1.25v
    bootup at 5.4 with 1.44v

Chip runs hot. Have reseated water block twice. At 1.3v still exceeds 60c under load. IHS contact inspected, appears IHS is... uneven?! Anyone else lap their sandy bridge IHS yet, results??

I'm experiencing the same results. I'm using a TEC and custom water and even at 1.4v and 5.2Ghz temps exceed 75 degrees. It's crazy .. Haven't checked my IHS yet..

Totally crazy. Some are hotter than others, I am thinking.

My IHS looked like one corner was slightly lower -- this might be a symptom of the chip not quite being evenly seated in the socket somehow. But I when I reseated the water block, I was sure to tighten down one corner first to get contact with it. Still though my temps haven't really changed.

I am conjecturing that the chips running x volts and y frequency should only vary in Temp significantly because of varying levels of contact between the IHS and the core. I have been out of overclocking for some years but in the AMD X2/Opteron days we were taking razors to the IHS's and chopping them off. IIRC though Intel solders the IHS down to the core so IHS removal has been pretty INCONVENIENT for some years now.

It would be too bad then, if some poor contact fusing the core to the IHS was causing our terrible temperatures.
