    Phenom II 1100T, WTF throttling?

Obviously I'm a noob to Thuban so I'll start out with a screenshot.

Anyone care to explain what's going on here? Max temp the board registered is 57c, but I notice the CPU throttling down to 800 Mhz/1.44v instead of 4200/1.525v like my overclock is set.

Am I just going over a temp threshold? Is it my board? Bad WB mount? Overclocking this thing has been a whole different experience than both my X4 and X2 CPU's.

I'm currently running an XFX 850w Black Edition (Seasonic M12D platform) as PSU, no longer an FSP Epsilon 700w.

    Water in sig composed of:
    Swiftech MCR320
    HeatKiller Rev 3.0 LT
    OCZ HydroPulse 800/(EK DCP 4.0)
Primochill Flex LRT 7/16" over 1/2 barbs
    Swiftech Micro Res
    3x Yate Loon D12SM-12 at ~1600 RPM

Welcome to the Thuban club Beep....

I'd say you have it exactly right with the throttling idea.
You can push v's to some extent for benchies, but for stability your voltages look way too high (temps too)...

Drop the CPU & IMC volts both back ~.075 and try again...

The IMC on Thuban seems to be especially sensitive to voltage.

dude your max temp hit 57c, that's more likely to be over 60c because of the borked Thuban sensors

Your 1.525V seems too high for Thuban. Drop it down to ~1.48V. The CPU-NB voltage is ok for a water colling, imo.
I'm not sure this is the reason, but wanted to note it. Never seen throttling on any of my Denebs or Thubans.

    dude...
in the screenshot u see everest telling 57°C core temp. which reads the temp off the borked sensor.
so it is indeed well over 60°C
my guess is somewhere between 65 and 70°C, thatīs why the cpu is throttling.
beepbeep try using lower volts. 1.5v should be enough to get 4.2ghz stable whatīs ur imc volts?

what are the temps in fanxpert ?
so far for me that's been the closet.
I put 10C offset on core temp.

This happens only on the m4a line up.not on the cross hair line up. This has more to do with the board than the chip. My bet is a over heating nb or vrm area.

I've not had any throttling issues with 1090t. His loops pretty similar to mine and he actually has more rad surface area than I do. I don't think it would be temps, unless he's not using his loop...

I had no issues pushing 1.5v+ on my 1090t for benching but I used a lot less for my 24/7 clock.

Haha...if you think this CPU will do 4.2 with 1.45v set think again...it can't do 4.1 with 1.475v set...and for the love of god, I'm on a 32-bit OS. Thanks for the welcome though, I've had the CPU over a week now but not enough time to play with it.

If you look, the invividual core temps are reading 30c at the time I take the screenshot...and they were never over 47c themselves. I can't see the CPU being over 60-62c.

Well, Cool n Quiet and C1E are greyed out in the BIOS...which I believe means disabled. I can look at that I suppose.

Hmm, okay. I need that CPU-NB voltage for 3000, it will boot at 1.3v but it's not stable.

I would run Prime95, OCCT, and LinX on this board at 1.62v load though completely fine with my 965...

    i still think its temps..

try some more prime without fans or something and see if it happens again at a specific temp each time. i have pushed more volts as have other people but depending on the fans & loop, temps will be different. i have push-pull with insane amount of cfm's + very high fpi rads so it keeps temps in check.

edit: do you have some nuts to go on the end of those bolts for your water block?

The bolts are missing but it's not unscrewing itself or anything. I've got it way so it's easier for me to change CPU's for benching...

ASUS boards throttle via the BIOS if the MOSFETs start heating up. Helps prevent killing them off, but if the top MOSFET cooler ASUS normally loves to use is bowed or arched a bit, it'll affect performance.

Wow, I have airflow over the top cooler and I stuck those sinks on the back...

I guess it's time to break out the 2600RPM panaflo to throw over it...

Well, it's better than MSI boards that don't trottle properly... just look at [H]'s three "Thuban killed my mobo" threads. MSI is almost running the show against ASUS, Biostar (!!), Gigabyte and others.
