I wanna see some Sandy Bridge Results

Sandy bitsch is out for quite a while now (actually not, but there a lot of CPUs around due to shops, which don't care about NDA) and I have seen tons of Super-Wee-Wee screens but no crunching results yet.

If we do some simple math:

    920@4GHz makes around 35k PPD: + 10% Per Clock + 700Mhz more

    -> 45k PPD

    Movieman, release the kraken please!

Greetings and a Happy New Year

I can't give you lots of numbers as I had LOTS of issues with my board BUT I did get a 2600 non K SB chip to crunch for app 3 days and it turned in a average of 33,700PPD at 3492MHz while drawing 118.5w from the wall.
Temps with a TRUE w/113cfm Delta were in the mid 40's in a 71F room( open case)
Now as sweet as that 118.5w figure is it could be lowered even more.
    My setup had this:
    Intel Burrage board
2600 SB chip at 3492( 8 threads with HT on)
    2x4 gig GSKill DDR3-1600
    PCP+C 610w Silencer
    1-36 gig WD Raptor
    EVGA 260GTX
Bottom line is it's really a sweet cruncher even at 3500mhz.
Not that expensive, low electrical use and nice temps.
Also damn it's fast in just about anything you'd want to do.

Sounds good, and even my math could work out correctly.

I think with a 2600K at 4500MHz you could crank out app 42,000PPD in WCG.
That is getting near the highly OC'd 6 core range at much less electrical and much less heat.
The top 6 cores will still outdo it BUT at a much higher cost and electrical draw..It is a winner.

Yeah, and makes hope for the upcoming Sandy Bridge-E performance generation. I doubt that Bulldozer will be able to reach that level of performance and efficiency.

We will see but right now these look to be the i7-920 replacements to me.
Initial cost is close and long term cost is less and that is what matters, overall cost to run the system for a 2-3 year timeframe..

I may have to do away with a 920 and get one of those.

If you have a MC near you apparently they will be doing special launch prices:

    Core i5 2400 $149.99
    Core i5 2500K $179.99
    Core i7 2600 $249.99
    Core i7 2600k $279.99

These look to be a pretty nice upgrade to the current 1366 chips when it comes to power and heat. When you take into count that the boards will start at around $130 for the GB UD3, it shouldn't be too much to swap out your 1366 rig and could be a little less than what you sell the 1366 rig for. Just some food for thought.

I need some assistance. Aside from the huge decrease in power usage, what is so special about Sandy Bridge?

I may be "out dated" with my socket 775 X3330 and ddr2 but I just averaged out my last 90 days of WCG points and am doing 18,400 WCG ppd. I'm currently running at 3.4ghz (2 weeks ago it was 3.8ghz but I moved to 8gb ram and had to drop clock). Even at 3.8ghz I never saw a load temp over 45C using a TRUE with 63CFM Scythe s-flex and 68F room closed case. I realize going from 4 threads to 8 isn't going to be double the output but I would hope to see more than you were getting.

Now I just need a dual cpu board/version so I could keep my current power usage and triple my output

Your getting 18,400PPD at say an average of 3600
The 3 days I ran SB at 3492 I averaged 33,700 with 118.5w showing at load on the killawatt.
Now wait till you see the dual socket 1155..

is this true or a joke? why would they do dual socket 1155 and not 1366 (or whatever the enthusiast socket is for SB) IF that is true... might be best to save pennies now for q3/4 of this year. But I know most of us can't wait that long
