Several years ago, I remember seeing a while ago an in-line filter made by Pentek. It absolutely killed flow rates but it did was a filter is supposed to do. Anyone know where to pick one up?

idk but just was thinking if you had two tanks one on top of the other with the filter in between you wouldn't have to worry about flow would you. The return dumps into the top tank, the water would drop through the filter into the bottom tank. Obviously take a bit of space but could be done.

The last place I saw these were Petra's, but that shop is gone. You might try http://www.mcmaster.com for it or something similar. It is very restrictive, I could never get mine to work with either a single MCP655 or MCP355.

I use mine to clean any crud that may be in the loop for a few days before final assembly then remove it.
I'm using 5 micron filters and my DDC's push through just fine.

If your annoyed by sigs telling you to put things in your sig, then put this in your sig
Bribery won't work on me...just say NO to AT!!!
You can also get those things from a hardware store or a water treatment store. It's actually for a house water filter. I would just go to Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart, etc and you should be able to find it there.

house water filter, maybe, but such filters with G1/4 threads imho aren't that common in plumbing stores.
I believe that the Pentek does not have a G 1/4" fitting either and still needs a converter of some sort.

Don't know how about Pentek, but this one has G1/4 ports.
Yep, you're correct. IIRC, I said "to hell with it" and jammed a pair of these in there because it was the cheapest way to go at the time. Has worked fine for about 4-5 years now without a leak. If I had to do it today, I would probably find some convoluted method, making sure to use the proper threads for each joint regardless of cost.

Yea, you will need to convert it down, but there are PVC adapters out there that allow you to drop down the size. I'm not certain if they exist in G1/4, but you can get plastic barbs in most sizes.
