    Noob question....

OK, so I finally was able to get my old 920 C0 to 4Ghz last night [still got to tweak to make stable though], and I notice that even after I set the RAM multi to 10 [with a 200 blck] it still shows the RAM speed at 1604Mhz; what gives? How can I get it to clock to 2000Mhz? That is the rated speed of my memory [Mushkin 998750], DDR3-2000 @ 8-8-7-24-2T

Change the ram multi to 12x (i think) and you may have to adjust the cpu vtt voltage some. Remember your uncore has to be atleast 2x your ram for a i7 4 core and atleast 1.5x a 6 core. example you ram is 2,000MHz then your uncore should be 4,000MHz.

As cobra said mem speed is limited to maximum 1/2 of uncore irrespective of ram multi. Only after the uncore multi is set to 2x your desired ram speed will the ram multi work.

Uncore 20x ram 10x will get you to 2000mhz (note though you may need more vtt and/or ddr voltage depending on how good the IMC on your cpu is). CPU will run hotter so you may need to check your cpu overclock again for stability.

Got it, thanks. I will try it out now and see what develops.

Good luck dude, let us know how it goes. 2000mhz uncore can be tricky on a c0, if I remember right my old c0 took around 1.45v gpi/vtt and 1.7ddr to hit 2000mhz. Dram and qpi both affect uncore so you may need to run more voltage than your memory needs if the imc on your cpu cant keep up.

The best way to do this for you may be to drop the ram multi and cpu multi and stabilise 2000mhz uncore first. I'd then dial up the ram clock then finally the cpu. Lowering cas setting below 9 will also require you to increase vtt a little so id go for 2000mhz 9-9-9-24-1T (notice you have 2T set atm according to your sig?) first then dial in the timings after everything else is stable.

Always ensure vtt and vcore never get more than 0.5v apart - especially critical with c0 steppings.

Co-incidentally youll usually find the best performance from your cpu clocking with vtt within 0.2v of vcore. Most chips run at their absolute peak with vtt around 0.05v of vcore, but with air cooling temps can get to be an issue before you need to do this. Depending on how hot your cpu runs and what you consider your max accep-table temps to be that H70 may limit you before you get to this point. I do reckon you can get that cpu to 4.2ghz though given your current voltage and overclock. 1.4 to 1.45vcore should get you there, but given 2000mhz ram/uncore and high vtt required I honestly don't know if the H70 is enough.

    Hope that helps .

How come I set the CPU voltage to +120mV [1.2825 total] and in CPU-Z it shows up as 1.42v? That is a difference.

your mem might not actually run 2000, maybe you set it in bios but then you hit save n exit and it resets it cause it fails to post, and then with a short delay posts with the previous settings which were 1600 i guess?

try to reduce your block, iirc higher bclocks make uncore and the imc less stable at high speeds

Telo, I very much doubt your c0 920 has a default volts of 1.1625v. Thats low even for a d0.

To find your default volts go into bios, disable system turbo, save and exit and go back into bios. Go to the bios page where you can djust your voltages and check what it says under cpu target voltage. Thats your cpu's default volts (vid). Its probably between 1.25 and 1.3 I would imagine.

It is a set of Mushkin 998750 DDR3-2000 8-8-7-24, which i have heard to be a pretty decent set.

Sorry for not posting it before, when I did what you asked I believe it showed a VID of 1.175. I can't check again for a while since I now have a 950 in the board and I'm trying to find the sweet spot for it; so far I got it at the same settings as the 920, but with a lot less voltage [1.225v in BIOS [+60mV], 1.206v will running Linx as per CPU-z and Everest meters]. I was going to try and jack it up to 4.5Ghz, but the voltage required for it was way too much [compared to what it took to give it a 1Ghz boost], 1.375v. Another reason is that I'm looking for another board, maybe an UD7, R3E, or Classified [760 or 770] to try both CPUs and see where they will perform better and have the BloodRage as a third system [the BlackOps is running my E8600 at 4.5Ghz rock solid].
