What RAM to choose for Sandy Bridge?

    Hey guys,
I am planning on making the switch to a 2500K / P67-UD4P (or similar) around launch time if prices aren't ridiculously gouged up. I've never experimented with DDR3 RAM so this will be my first. I am a bit confused at what to purchase to accompany a 2500K (4.2+ GHz).

Budget is around $90 for a 4GB kit & have narrowed it down to these four. Any input as what would work best for Intel SB?

I like the idea of the OCZ's DDR3 CAS6 but I also know OCZ's DOA rate is quite high compared to others...what do you guys think? These look to be newly released from OCZ.

I think I would look for RAM with low CAS vs high speed since I hear that overclocking RAM is limited with SB.

I've heard that the RAM is unlocked on SB in steps of 266MHz, then you can always adjust the base-clock slighty so I don't think RAM clocking should be outruled for SB...

Hmm I guess I'll hold off on the RAM for now until we get some more info on RAM overclocking on Sandy Bridge. I'd love to get those PI's but was also thinking DDR3-2000...

800-1066-1333-1600-1866 and 2133 officially supported (just set the ram ratio and you are off lol, so boring ) Got a board here that even has a 2400mhz divider... sadly it's bios is so new, nothing over 1333Mhz posts lol

Till now max Bclock is 107 :p

For daily usage no need to cash out for 2000mhz sticks, 1600 & 1866Mhz are darn fine... for benchers 2133 and higher are more suitable... I'm testing the GTX2 Hypers , Massman is firing up the Gskill Flares...

Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

Pretty sure i've seen someone not sure if its on these forums, but has there ram overclocked 2100+ anyways bit OT, id go with 1600/best timings possible.. Either way 1600 kit should clock quite high so really no need for a higher kit..

Another thing I find funny is AMD/Intel would snipe any of our Moms on a grocery run if it meant good quarterly results, and you are forever whining about what feser did?

The price of 2000MHz+ sticks are pretty close to 1600Mhz now, so it will all depend on the IMC of SB.
If the IMC can handle 2000Mhz+ easily, which seams be be doing from early tests (if I understood it right, correct me if I'm wrong guys). Then why not go for a good high-end kit, something like F3-17600CL7D-4GBPIS (or similar)?

Used a set of the PIs 6-7-6 2000MHz in my P8P67 Deluxe review, they work well, these were a triple channel kit originally, but I just used 2 of them, you can buy them in dual channel kits I believe. The only snag with these, is that if you are running high CPU clocks, and you also want to run fast memory as well, then you will need to play about with the memory controller voltages to get it right, or at least, I did on this.

Also, there's no 2000MHz setting, it goes like this:

    • 800
    • 1066
    • 1333
    • 1600
    • 1866
    • 2133
    • 2400

If running tighter timings (CAS 6), 1866MHz seemed to be the sweet spot for my CPU as far as voltage vs performance went. No doubt it'll all change as the BIOSes evolve

I'd say take two of these and call me in the morning if your budget was a bit more: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWAX:IT

+1 , dont know why everyone is buying new ram when you can run your triple channel "elpida hypers" as dual channel..

I have seen a table with vDimm=1.5v (for 24/7) and 1.575v (absolute max), but I don't know if it was the right one (or the final one). That can be a good reason to buy low-volt sticks, if true.

Anybody knows Intel's recommendation for 24/7 vDimm on SB?
