Maybe that's why the temps are lower?
    Interesting - is this confirmed?

If so, there is no advantage at all to buying a HD6970 and it can be considered physically identical to a HD6950 in all respects.

They are not physically Identical at all. Similar yes, but the 6970 has different components in the power delivery circuits. Also 1ghz higher binned ram chips, and even a different board. ( I know the boards look alike but just check the numbers near the PCI-e slot. they are different board models).
If you get a chance to really look ove the two models there are quite a few changes, mostly better grade components and such.

    Hi everyone,

I purchased 2 ASUS 6970's when they were very first released on Newegg. The PCB color of my cards are both RED. I recently was checking some things out on Newegg and saw the pictures of the ASUS 6970 PCB color was now GREEN in the photos. Will somebody who has recently purchased any ASUS 6970's confirm that the PCB color is now GREEN or is it still RED. The reason why I ask is because, I am having problems with my cards and I wonder if ASUS changed anything else on the PCB that we don't know about.

    Thanks in advance everyone!!
I bought an HD 6970 on the day of purchase for as cheap as I could - 270 including free delivery from Ebuyer.

This gave me the sapphire version. Today I modified an old HD4870 waterblock with a hacksaw, and got the card working underwater. This has dropped temps massively.

I used some of the stick on heatsinks (designed for ram chips really) for the mosfets so the card is cooled better in this regard as well.

I then flashed the bios with the ASUS version to give the voltage tweakability with smartdoctor. I also increased the powertune to +20 percent.

So far I have got the core stable at 1025. I'm sure there is more here too, subject to tweaking and testing. This gives over 2400 3dmarks - see below. That's better than a stock GTX580

I am not unpleased with this card. Next plan is to get the memory up further.
are you sure ?

    HD6970 @ 1025/1375 GPU Score 23389

GTX 580 stock GPU Score 24395

Hey everyone, I was checking out things on Newegg and if you look at any of the Radeon 6970's there and zoom in on the bottom of the PCI brackets of the video cards, you will see that they all read Revision B now instead of Revision A. I wonder what all changes they made to them?>

My flashed Gigabyte 6950 also reads revision B so i wouldn't worry right now.

You need to use this bios - it's a modded ASUS 6950 one http://www.megaupload.com/?d=0P3NBAXK

The highest you can go without hardmodding the card is 1.3 on vddc, if you go higher than that the card shuts of. For higher voltage you need raise vddcl aswell.
