Let us know if the performance is correct for it now! Grats and hope so... I may switch to 2x 6950 to unlock to 6970, instead of my GTX 580 if this works right. Tempting, but not sure it's worth the hassle/risk of not unlocking two cards properly...

Could you please confirm that you have flashed ASUS HD 6970 BIOS to Sapphire HD 6950 and it worked?

If possible could you please share your results (before/after screenshots etc...) and experiences with us?

    flashed.
    got to try.
    worked.
    2 6950 Powercolor
However, seeing artifacts in 3D and benches wont run.

    gpu-z shows 1600unified shaders.
so, seems this is a luck of the draw to get a working ex for unlock.

@ZoLKoRn, thank you very much! Performance difference is caused by increased clock speeds. Could you please test at the same clock speeds with berfore/after BISOes?

@ZoLKoRn, thank you very much! Actually we need results of following situations to compare performance within two BIOSes:

1- Default Sapphire HD 6950 speeds with Sapphire HD 6950 BIOS
2- Default Sapphire HD 6950 speeds with ASUS HD 6970 BIOS

    @ ZoLKoRn
what were your default 6970 card results?
roughly the same as the 6950 flashed to 6970 ?

i'd like to see if the shaders really are unlocked. can it be read from registers or something? i think GPU-Z is just reading built in data depending on the card IDs

Thanks, it's great! 150 points means additional shaders are working... Now, last kind request from me; could you please test artifacts with GPUTool stability test at least 15 mins.?

I'm back to running 6970 now for checking on stock clock and overclock same as here for 930/1450MHz let to see what happen with it, wait a moment

Edit : i think shaders it working, now i tried running asus card on stock clock it score showed 5004point now (screenshot to come)

Edit2 : Well done ! checking from here with i back to running my asus card at both clock is i tried on sapphire@asus bios from #29

    real asus card with stock clock - 5004point (sapphire@asus bios - 4998point from #29)

    real asus card with oc@930/1430MHz - 5158point (sapphire@asus bios - 5154point from #33)

so finally i think shaders it really working for unlocked nice one again for AMD !

I flashed my sapphire 6950 with the asus bios before I really ran any benches but at
    900/1350 3dmark 11 went from p5363 to p5470

so it looks like it unlocked and though I was hoping the shaders made a bigger difference.

I would of thought the extra shaders would of had a bigger impact really.

    Sounds great.
But smartdoctor (voltage increase?) isn't working?

What happens if you try the voltage increase? Does the card get any higher clocks on GPU? (even if gpu-z isn't showing it?)

No higher clocks even if smortdoctor tell that the voltage is higher.

I conclude that Asus did not test his own software.

So i hope that a new afterburner will be available soon .

Ok, another question for OP and anyone else:

If you flash a 6970 (not a 6950) to an ASUS 6970 bios, does the overclock increase or remain the same as before?
(without using Smartdoctor, so, stock volts only).

    Zolkorn?

Very nice! what did you use to get past the normal clock speeds too? Was that in the bios flash?
