    Thumbs up Gigabyte P67A & Z68X UD5 Discussion Thread

    Hi all,

I just got this board & an i5 2500K a couple days ago & thought I'd make a new thread to start us UD5 owners off.

I've reserved a couple spaces at the front for useful information & if this thread gets a following I'll try to keep all the good bits at the front.

    Tips, Tricks & Observations

Got to start somewhere so here's what works for me & as we discover more I'll add them in.

    Advanced CPU Core Features

    CPU Clock Ratio - Default 33 on my i5 2500k & 34 on the i7 2600k

    Internal PLL Overvoltage - My 2500K boots x49 on F2,3,4 & 5 Bios & x54 with the F5x Bios including the Internal PLL Override. My 2600K boots x53 disabled & x57 enabled.

Real Time Ratio Changes In OS - Enables & Disables ratio changes in Easytune, also when set enabled overrides Turbo boost.

    Intel(R) Turbo Boost Tech
    Turbo Ratio (Core 1)
    Turbo Ratio (Core 2)
    Turbo Ratio (Core 3)
    Turbo Ratio (Core 4)
    Turbo Power Limit (Watts)
    Turbo Current Limit (Amps)

CPU Cores Enabled - Run 1,2,3 or 4 cores

CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E) - Disabled, tested & working & don’t appear to affect overclock if Enabled
C3/C6 State Support - Disabled, tested & working & don’t appear to affect overclock if Enabled
CPU Thermal Monitor - Disabled, tested & working & don’t appear to affect overclock if Enabled
CPU EIST Function - Disabled, tested & working & don’t appear to affect overclock if Enabled
Bi-Directional PROCHOT - Disabled, tested & working & don’t appear to affect overclock if Enabled

    Advanced Frequency Settings

Spread Spectrum - New feature of F3 Bios, Disabled, untested
BCLK/DMI/PEG Clock Control - Enable BCLK Frequency Control

    BCLK/DMI/PEG Frequency Control - Increase or Decrease BCLK e.g 98 x 45 = 4410MHz 102 x 45 = 4590MHz, useful to run CPU in between multiplier speed increases of 100MHz. Also adjusting this will increase/decrease RAM speed.

    System Memory Multiplier (SPD) - 800, 1066, 1333, 1600, 1866, 2133 available.

    Advanced Memory Settings:

Performance Enhance - Standard, Turbo, Extreme - auto sets memory timings tighter & tighter I have mine manually set.

DRAM Timing Selectable (SPD) - Sets RAM timings as per SPD

Channel Interleaving - Enabled boosts memory bandwidth.

Rank Interleaving - Enabled boosts memory bandwidth.

    Channel A Timing Settings:

    ##Channel A Standard Timing Control##

CAS Latency Time - Very roughly 1000mb increase in bandwidth per drop in CAS i.e 9, 8, 7 & 1ns latency per drop.
tRCD - Auto runs fine & manual you need what you need to run as per your RAM
tRP - Auto runs fine & manual you need what you need to run as per your RAM
tRAS - Auto runs fine & manual you need what you need to run as per your RAM

tRC - Auto runs fine & manual you need what you need to run as per your RAM
tRRD - Auto runs fine & manual you need what you need to run as per your RAM
tWTR - Auto runs fine & manual you need what you need to run as per your RAM
tWR - Auto runs fine & manual you need what you need to run as per your RAM
tWTP - Auto runs fine & manual you need what you need to run as per your RAM
tWL - Auto runs fine & manual you need what you need to run as per your RAM
tRFC - Auto runs fine & manual you need what you need to run as per your RAM
tRTP - Auto runs fine & manual you need what you need to run as per your RAM
tFAW - Auto runs fine & manual you need what you need to run as per your RAM

Command Rate (CMD) 1T & 2T tested & work fine on all memory dividers.

IO Latency - Auto, have played with this didn’t find any benefit
Round Trip Latency - Auto, have played with this didn’t find any benefit

    Channel B Timing Settings:

    ##Channel B Standard Timing Control##

CAS Latency Time - Same as channel A
    tRCD
    tRP
    tRAS
    tRC
    tRRD
    tWTR
    tWR
    tWTP
    tWL
    tRFC
    tRTP
    tFAW
    Command Rate (CMD)
    IO Latency
    Round Trip Latency

    Advanced Voltage Control:

    CPU

Load Line Calibration - Auto, Standard, Level 1 & 2. I use Level 1 Level 2 PC wont post.

CPU Vcore - Default 1.24 @ 3.3GHz for my chip.

You need what you need to get into windows, too low hangs at splash screen, LinX is good to get vcore about right but I find I need one or 2 more bumps to pass 3DMARK03 CPU tests & surf the net. I also find I get BSOD 124 after a few hours even after being LinX/Prime stable requiring another small vcore bump to maintain 24/7 stability.

QPI/VTT Voltage 1.050v - Default works fine for everything I have done. I have lowered mine to 0.90v as thats all I need for DDR2133 @ 5GHz. LinX fails if you lower this voltage too much.

System Agent Voltage 0.925v - I find 0.935 ~ 0.945v optimum for everything I have done with my 2600K, too little or too much voltage caused Super Pi 32M to fail. My 2500K need even lower voltage.

PCH Core 1.050v - Default works fine for 5GHz at any RAM speed & a slightly overclocked 3870X2. Less voltage 3DMark wont run & more voltage shows no score improvement for me. I need 1.14~1.16 for 2 x 3870X2's to prevent the driver crashing in 3DMark benches.

CPU PLL 1.800v - Chip dependant, Default works fine for 5GHz on my 2500K, I have mine lowered to 1.58v for 5GHz as thats all I need to pass LinX & other tests.

    DRAM

DRAM Voltage 1.500v - You need what you need for your sticks to run, I believe 1.65v is the safe max.

DRAM Vref 0.750v - Default is 50% of VDIMM, Mine is set auto.
DRAM Termination 0.750v - Default is 50% of VDIMM, Mine is set auto.
Ch-A Data VRef. 0.750v - Default is 50% of VDIMM, Mine is set auto.
Ch-B Data VRef. 0.750v - Default is 50% of VDIMM, Mine is set auto.
Ch-A Address VRef. 0.750v - Default is 50% of VDIMM, Mine is set auto.
Ch-B Address VRef. 0.750v - Default is 50% of VDIMM, Mine is set auto.

    Miscellaneous Settings

Isochronous Support - Disabled, havent tested Enabled.
Virtualization Technology - Disabled, havent tested Enabled.

Now to start the comments off....

Board & chip makes 4.5GHz on vid!!! although saying that vid is dynamic & changes with clock speed so I guess what I'm saying is 4.5GHz out of the box is easy just plug it in & up the multiplier.

F2 BIOS doesn’t display the BIOS set CPU multiplier on post, it just goes up to37. Its correct in windows & is fixed in the later BIOS's

My board/chip goes easy to the 48 multiplier & runs 4.8GHz LinX stable with 1.33vcore set in BIOS LL1.... Can’t get LL2 to work. Can’t get into windows using the 49/50 multiplier without dropping fsb/bclk down from 100.

All memory dividers get into windows & make a decent improvement to everest. Havent had long enough to test but 1T is a little flaky for me atm but this may no longer be the case with the newer BIOS's I'm still on F2 shipping BIOS.

Dont know if the extra phases will make a difference.... wouldent have thought so at my level. We will have to wait & see if the UD7 beats the UD5 in the real world.

I see many stuck also maybe its BIOS maybe its chip again only time will tell but I'm hoping its all BIOS problems & it'll all come good.

Ye full retail purchased by me for me.

I'm still tinkering with the CPU overclock so will take a bit more time to run through all the available BIOS's & settle on a tweaked 24/7 clock. I will however be running some non optimal benches tonight & post them up with some BIOS screen shots & a template if I get time.

Is there anything in particular you want to see?

Edit.... Heres a quick ballpark run

Oh just the usual. I would LOVE to see 3D01 and super pi ran on XP 32-bit!! Maybe some ram overclocking and telling how much volts the NB needs to run at high ram clocks. I am particularly interested if it needs "more than safe" volts to run 2ghz+ ram. Other than that I would just like to see the memory tab in CPUZ in the screens and whatever benches you feel like running.

std = quite a bit & kind of the same as most bords, seen .05v so switched to LL1 & voltage increases with load, cant get LL2 to work.

Dont know havent looked, it dont get hot so maybe nothing!!! BUT IT LOOKS GOOD LOL

I wont be using XP only 7 & 3D01 dont run worth benching in 7.

SPi runs 7.75s @ 4.85 & I reckon the 2600k with its extra L3 cache will be even better.

The board clocks RAM very well, I have just run DDR2150 CL9 & it makes 24K+ in everest @ about 37 ~ 37.5ns depending on how you tweak the RAM. I have the NB @ stock. I did put the mem tab in the last ss.

Ye should fit the heatsink is under 30mm tall so it will fit up down or left right. My heatsink covers the first 2 mem slots fitted up down but I only have low RAM modules so they fit fine.
